Title: Trophy
Author: SCWLC
Disclaimer: I own nothing, I don't even own the concept that spawned this fic.
Summary: Connor and Abby have a very interesting story behind the thing on their wall.
Rating: G
AN: This is based on the opening scene from
Kerry's Voyager Janeway/Chakotay 'shipper fic,
I Wanna be Your Girlfriend. I'd been looking for an excuse to use the notion for a while, and I have now borrowed it shamelessly from her.

"Connor, what is that?" Emily asked as she pointed to the object framed on the wall.
He came over and looked at it a moment, then grinned at her. "It's exactly what it looks like."
The others, all there for the housewarming as Connor and Abby had finally moved into a place all their own, came over to look. Becker raised an eyebrow. "I had thought it was post-abstract art. But it's just . . ."
"It's a trophy," Connor explained.
Lester shot back sardonically, "I wouldn't have thought you the sort of have such a thing as a trophy, Connor."
"I wouldn't have thought you'd let him, Abby," Matt said, staring as well.
Abby heaved a sigh. "It's not as big a deal as Connor makes it out to be," she told them.
"Are you kidding?" Connor said. "I told you when it happened I'd have it framed, and I meant it. Most amazing thing I'd ever seen."
Abby snorted. "You didn't even see it."
Connor's grin was wide, the dimple in full showing and his eyes sparkling as he replied, "I see it all the time in my imagination, and it gets better each time."
"Dare I even ask?" Emily inquired.
"It really wasn't any more exciting than any other death-defying stunt we've pulled," Abby said. "Actually, it's a lot less so."
"Death defying?" Jess asked, and bolted over to join the others in staring at it. "But . . . how?"
Nearly giggling with glee, Connor said to her, "Well, we had a lot of adventures in the Cretaceous, this is just one of my favourites."
"It wasn't your favourite when you came back and found me there," Abby said severely. But her lips were twitching as she spoke anyhow.
"How," Jess asked slowly, "Does that translate to any sort of death-defying act?"
He'd been forced to spend a night in a tree, away from Abby, after he'd been cut off from their shelter by the deinonychuses. He knew she'd be just as worried as he was, but there hadn't been much he could do. That morning he hurried back, relieved that they'd left the area for the time being.
When he got back to their campsite, he saw the raptor lying there, dead. Wrapped around its neck was what had clearly been the instrument of its demise. "Abby!" he called, scrambling into their shelter. "Abby! Are you alright?" he called.
She was fine, pulling him into a hug the moment he was in. "I'm fine, what about you?" she asked, patting him down.
"I'm okay," he reassured her. "It's just that the raptors cut me off from getting back yesterday. I'm sorry." They held each other a moment, both relieved the other was still fine. Then Connor pulled away. He had to ask. "Abby, the raptor out there."
"It leapt out at me," she confessed with a shiver. "I don't even know how I got on its back in the end. Luck, I suppose."
He slowly nodded. "I suppose I can see that, but how did you get it around its neck?"
"I was at the pond," Abby explained. "I'd been doing a bit of washing up, you know, we're getting pretty rank." He nodded, then blinked. "You were . . ."
This time she nodded. "Well, I can't exactly properly wash my clothes when I'm wearing them, can I?"
He stared, then raced outside, coming back with it in hand. "When we get home, I'm having this framed," he informed her. "I need to memorialise the sexiest thing I've ever heard in me life."
They all stared. Finally, Matt came out with, "I'd have framed them too, I think."
"Absolutely," Becker agreed.
For a moment, Becker, Matt and Connor were all lost, drifting in a fantasy world over the thought.
Lester sighed, then said, "I suppose it is impressive in a rather gauche way."
Jess, Abby and Emily exchanged looks, giggling. Emily shook her head as she turned away from the lovely green, lacy Victoria's Secret brassiere on the wall. "You should have seen what happened when I lost my corset to the dimetrodon."
Matt, Connor and Becker all tripped and fell over simultaneously.
