Soul's a pretty cool guy. He eats kishin souls and doesn't afraid of anything.
But really. He's very relaxed, laid-back person. He's definitely a follower, not a leader. He's more the adviser type. Someone else might be in charge, but he won't hesitate to call them out on stupid, reckless behavior. He might not be calling the shots, but the person who is will never have to wonder what he thinks of the decisions they make. Because Soul will tell them. And he will be loud. And he will yell. And he will do what it takes to get their attention. This works... sometimes. At least, it works when it really seems to matter. Maka, for instance, is the most stubborn person he knows. Maka does what Maka wants whenever Maka wants to. She runs into situations without thinking, she listens to her heart whereas Soul listens to logic and reason. He often tells his Meister that she's doing something dumb or reckless in an effort to keep her from harm.
That is actually a very important facet of Soul. He is incredibly loyal and dedicated. He doesn't break promises, he doesn't switch sides. He is always looking out for his friends and he refuses to see them come to harm. Maka especially. He's her Weapon. It's his duty to keep her from getting hurt. It may not look like he cares about much, but under the surface, Soul is one determined kid. He protects Maka without hesitation. When she freezes, he acts for her -- putting himself in harms way to keep her safe.
Soul is able to keep himself calm and composed no matter how difficult things get. He manages to remain level-headed and think clearly, offering insight into various situations that others may have overlooked. However, he's never wordy. In fact, he's anything but. Soul is very blunt. No skirting around issues, he will tell it like it is. Which is not always what people want to hear.
For a long time he was trying to reach his own expectations of what "cool" looked and acted like. In many ways he still is. Sure, he's a Death Scythe now, but that hasn't done much for his confidence or his self-esteem. He feels that without Maka, he is completely useless. He can't fight on his own and he's not strong or fast. At least not strong enough to do any good.
Despite wanting to be cool, Soul does not want to be popular. He fears emotional attachment, always keeping a bit of distance between others. He's reluctant to talk to anyone about his problems - he's tight lipped about his past and his family, not even Maka is aware that he has a brother, nor did he say a word to her when he was first infected with Black Blood about the dreams he had of the Little Ogre.
Music is very, very important to Soul even if it is a bit of a catch-22. Memories of his past, of his family, his brother revolve mostly around music and he still hasn't been able to move beyond them. Pieces that remind him of home - especially things being played on violin - tend to upset him. On the other hand, he's loves to talk about music with others, showing that he has a fondness for jazz and swing. Despite his reluctance to play for anyone, he does enjoy it and could easily stay in the music room for hours on end.
[Abilities]
Weapon - Soul can physically transform himself into a scythe. He doesn’t always have to transform completely. He can turn his entire arm into a blade, or he can transform just his forearm to make fighting a bit easier. Now that he’s a Death Scythe, he can choose to have the blade come out of his arm, instead of transforming any part of it.
Noise Canceling - power gained after defeating arachne. Through Maka, Soul is able to sense person’s soul wavelength which he interprets as a sound, not something visual. Using the piano in the black room he is able to produce a “reverse phrase signal” to nullify that wavelength, which directly affects a person’s abilities. Basically it’s like when something is so loud that it’s painful, but then someone is smart enough to go and turn the volume down. So, this ability is kind of self explanatory once you know how Soul senses wavelengths.
Black Blood - Inside his head is this little room called the Black Room. It’s inhabited by
the Little Ogre/Little Demon who was “born” when Soul was first infected with the Black Blood. Upon activation, he can connect with everyone performing Soul Resonance with him. It gives him and his partner(s) a lot of strength and power. Which is awesome, but there’s a catch. Every time he uses it he, and possibly his partner, runs the risk of falling prey to madness and as such is used only as last resort. He’s managed to get a bit of control over the insanity and can draw out the strength of the Black Blood, but not the madness that goes along with it. It’s still all pretty new to him -- he doesn’t quite know it’s limits, or his for that matter, and it definitely puts a strain on him.
Anti-Demon Wavelength/Soul Perception - This is only possible during Soul Resonance with his Meister, Maka. The Anti-Demon wavelength protects him from insanity and Soul perception is just what it sounds like - the ability to perceive souls. As noted before, he hears them. He doesn’t see them like Maka can.
Piano - Soul thinks he is the worst pianist ever, but don’t listen to him because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. By playing the piano in the Black Room, he has the ability to manipulate Soul Wavelengths by treating them as music. The longer he plays, the more he is at risk of falling deeper into insanity.
*So what can he do with this?*
- Can create a perfect Chain Resonance under impossible conditions by creating sound waves and a rhythm that all Soul Wavelengths resonating with him can follow. This makes them all much stronger and much more agile.
- By increasing the tempo of the song, his team members gain more attack speed. Certain chords increase their attack strength. He can also do the opposite, making him able to slow enemies down.
- Can spread Anti-Demon wavelength to others, sometimes over huge distances by using the power of Arachne’s spider webs as a medium between the piano and other people.
Form Manipulation - What it sounds like. He can change the appearance of his Weapon form.
Flight - Through Soul Resonance with Maka’s Grigori Soul, he can manifest wings in his Weapon form, allowing both him and Maka to fly.
[Other important stuff] The kid knows how to mind his manners. Being raised in an upper-class household has granted him a few nifty skills, like... dancing. He is an excellent ballroom dancer. He has a soft spot and great appreciation for beautiful architecture, once stating his fondness for Gothic designs.
Oh. And he drools. c:

[First Person]
- If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?
No way. I left home for a reason dude.
- What were you doing before now?
Kind of a vague question. Before what? Talking to you? … Are you serious? Oh come on, we’re in the same class, dumbass! Where do you think I was?
- If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be?
Cool.
- Would you consider yourself a power hungry individual?
No. It’s not really all that important, you know? Eat too much and you’re just going to throw up and hate yourself later. And I’m not cleaning that up. Wanting to get stronger is fine, but it needs to be for the right reasons. Not just to get power or whatever.
- Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do?
Tch. Kick their ass, that’s what.
- If you could have any super ability, what would it be and why?
Already have one, man. Or did you forget that you’re talking to a Death Scythe?
- You are on the verge of death. You know there is no way to survive and there's no coming back. Choose any of the following to answer: What is your last wish? Your last regret? Last thoughts? How do you feel? Who is the last person you think of other than your killer?
My last wish, huh? That Maka’s kept safe and finds a partner who can protect her better than I could. So I guess it goes without saying that she’s the last person I’d think of.
- You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
The hell would I go and goof off for? If Maka and I get a mission, we’ll get it done and we’ll get it done damn good. Goofing off? No, I don’t do that. Not when it’s something important.
- Murder. What is your opinion?
It makes me sick. Killing an innocent person rips away part of what makes you human and once you lose that, I won’t hesitate to take your soul.
- Do you prefer the city or living out in the country? Why?
The city, definitely. It’s easier to get lost in the crowd, just become a nameless face.
[Third Person]
“Leave me behind… I can’t fight together with you anymore. Sorry… You haven’t done anything wrong. Everything’s my fault. Just leave me behind… After all, I’m just a burden to you, aren’t I, Soul? I’m not strong. I can’t do anything on my own. ”
Those words stung more than Maka could have possibly imagined. Soul could only stand there and stare at his Meister. His Meister… just sitting there with her shoulders hunched like she was trying to carry the weight of the world. A heavy frown pulled at his lips, his brow furrowed, he clenched his fists so tight that the thin layer of skin covering his knuckles looked like it had been bleached white.
What did she see? What did she see in that last chapter that would do this to her? Maka wasn’t as strong as Black Star or Kid, but that didn’t matter to him. It never had. Why would she think that had changed? Damn it… it was this stupid book. It had to be.
“What the hell are you talking about? Seems like the influence of this book has got you thinking you’re under the weight of some great sin,” he swallowed hard, waiting a moment to make sure his voice wouldn’t start shaking. “Don’t go spouting nonsense because of those feelings!”
Silence. His heart raced. Maka… she couldn’t do this to him. She was better than this.
“You saw something in the previous chapter too, didn’t you, Soul…?
Soul’s breath hitched painfully in his chest, a lump forming in the back of his throat. So she’s figured him out, huh? That he’s not as great as he wants to be, as he tries to be, yearns to be. Tch, who did he think he was? Always trying to be so god damn cool, trying to be everything he knows he’s not.
NO. No that wasn’t true. To hell with this. To hell this and this book and what it was doing to his head. Maka wouldn’t. She wouldn’t.
-----
Soul’s fingers lifted from the keys, that last chord still ringing in his ears -- broken and dissonant and something he could never really place, only knew that it hurt.
“Wonderful! Just as expected from the son of the Evans family.” The crowd applauded. Of course they would applaud. They had to be polite, didn’t they? Especially after the way they reacted to his brother’s performance.
Some of the people here could tell the difference. No, honestly there might not be anyone who could tell. But those who could tell…?
“He’s every bit the musician his older brother Wes is.”
“Definitely!”
They could see, they could hear, the difference. Soul and his brother were at two completely different levels and Wes was at one that he could never hope to reach.
“Is that why you chose that girl?” Wes. It was Wes.
The voice made him freeze. His shoulders stiffened and he shoved his hands into his pockets so no one could see how tightly he was clenching his fists. Wes. So cool, so smooth, so… so… everything he could never be.
“NO!” venom dripped from the word he spat at his brother. Who the hell did he think he was? He had no right, no god damn right. What did Wes know? Nothing. He didn’t know anything.
“It’s just that you wanted to run away from music. From home…” Wes hesitated, looking Soul in the eye, “…from me. That girl doesn’t know anything about music. Do you find it easier to relax and not be jealous of me? Does it put you at ease? Isn’t that nice.”
No. No, no, no! It wasn’t like that with Maka! It wasn’t! Maybe at first it was. Maybe it was nice to have someone around that didn’t know who he was, who honestly wouldn’t know any better, but it wasn’t like that. He chose her... he chose her because she would never judge him for what he could or could not do. She wouldn’t laugh behind his back, wouldn’t endlessly critique his every move, every note he played. Wouldn’t sit there and make him feel like he was less of a person.
-----
“I didn’t,” a beat. One. Two. Three. Four. Four counts. One whole note. Two half notes. Four quarter notes. Eight eighth notes. Sixteen sixteenth notes. And Maka would never care. “I didn't see anything.”
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?]
I typically don’t play characters like Soul. Most of mine are super tsuns or ridiculous derps or… Naoto Shirogane (because she totally counts as her own character type). Playing him is a nice change of pace and it’s actually a bit of a challenge which makes this a lot more fun.
Also I just… really love his whole piano playing thing. I think mostly because, as a pianist myself, I can relate a lot. And honestly it would be SO. AWESOME. if I could play the piano to wreck shit up.
So basically I want to play him because it’s something different and not the same old same old. I mean, I actually had to write an APP for this. I haven’t had to write one in forever. Good old copypasta’s served me pretty well.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Be nice to other players! Always a good rule. c:
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] A lot of places! But Duski is who got me to app. XD;
[Any questions?] Nope!
