However, it's funny you mentioned "Atlus Shrugged" - it was the inspiration for the video game Bioshock, and has stirred up some interesting conversation amongst co-workers. Not because of the book itself, but because the book's effect on it's readers.
Essentially, a co-worker told me that he 'lost one of his friend's' to the book, as they were apparently a completely different character after reading it. They said the same thing happened to his younger brother; a personality change that was unexpected and apparently ruined the friendship.
Perhaps your research on the other people you know who read it should continue - why do only 2 of it own it? Did they notice a change in their environment or how others perceived them?
Would be interesting.
