"What sound?" Daniel asked.

"The sound of your heart beating. There have been too many times when it was silent," Sam said through tears that were forming in her eyes and throat.

Aw. I think this was my favorite part. But having Sam step in the ice cream was a nice humorous touch. :-)

Oh, I loved this!! I agree with aurora_novarum... that part about Daniel's heart beating is so sweet. :) Loved the hurt/comfort as Daniel talks about remembering what happened to Sha're, and I like how he teases Sam about lying to him when she says he's slept over and has some clothes there.

I was LOL when Sam stepped in the ice cream. Doesn't seem to be a huge misfortune, though (*fantasizes about Daniel licking ice cream off her toes*). ;) Love the ending too! Thanks so much for the cool story, Maeve! :)
