Oh geez, The Last Remnant. I did NOT like that game. The battle system is an interesting concept and it does require a little more thinking and strategizing than most RPGs, but it requires a TON of luck. You can use just the right strategy and perfectly balance your Unions, but the game will repeatedly screw you over.
Wait until you get to the part where you have to clear 5 fortresses, each with a loooooooooooong battle (as in multiple waves of enemy unions) followed by a super-hard boss fight that takes mostly luck to beat (and you can't save before the boss, so you get to redo the long-ass fight over and over!).
Yeah, I think I described playing it as a "questionable choice" on Twitter, and I continue to stand by that description. On the plus side, I picked it up for $10, and I think a weird or frustrating game can make for far more interesting writing fodder than a really great game with few flaws :P
