To go with the above comment, the 'fancy wording' of Amendment 2 will fuck over more than just Florida's glbt community.
The text of Amendment 2: Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.
Substantial equivalent thereof. Civil unions count as a substantial equivalent, and while that may not have been intended, that is what the words say. Which means that thousands of straight Florida citizens who have entered into civil unions to gain benefits--mostly elderly couples--may find themselves without those benefits as their civil unions are dissolved. They may not as well, but the wording makes it dangerously possible
