season one dvd

First of all, I'm sorry for any un-answered comments and whatever. I'm...not fit to speak much with other humans for a bit.

Anyway. I'm back to being an insane, madly in love Supernatural fanwhackjob. And today I managed to chase down THE CREEPY. THE DEMENTED. THE UNEXPLAINED. THE UNEARTHY. And that's just Sam's hair!

Or something.

See, months ago I saved up my money and put it away so there was NO chance whatsoever I wouldn't get my season one DVD. Then I spent it on something else, but it didn't turn out to be an issue.

I was going to go to BestBuy on Tuesday morning (the only time of that day I had a ride), but then my new puppy job started at that very time.

This morning I was feeling far worse than usual. Too sick (from depression/stress I can only guess) to eat, I was...wobbly by the early afternoon. Took care of my darling little puppy, and found a freakin' one cent Euro on the way home (on my very American sidewalk). If that ain't lucky, I dunno what is! Didn't help much, though... I did try wearing my Winchester T-shirt, but that's more for geekery than luck.

When I got to BestBuy, I made a little beeline to the New Releases shelf. I was feeling extra worried; that didn't get any better when I saw the Supernatural Season One DVD label in front of an empty spot.

As Jack Bauer likes to yell, Damn it!

I asked someone to look to see if any were in stock. The first computer was too freakin' slow, and the next had bad news. But there were OTHER BestBuys that had plenty. I spoke to my driver/mother and we decided to ask for directions to one of the other stores, or to see about ordering a copy.

Maybe my new shiny Euro was working 'cause I happened to ask the Right Person. She told me that she had ordered 40 some copies, been "watching for them", but they never even came in!
But she gave us directions to another store, something of a ways away.

My mom, being a very nice person, was willing to spend most of her day off driving me out there. I honestly wanted her to go get it for me: I was feeling more and more awful by the hour. Riding in the car in the sun (I'd even forgotten my dark glasses) tends to make me ill.
By the time we got there I was half fainted and just holding on, trying to keep from slipping into pure misery.
I did notice that this was the BestBuy where, many years ago, I bought my DVD player and my first DVD. That being season one of Buffy. All in all, it was a Full Circle Moment (tm!). What? I watch Oprah. Not to be more Dean-ish. I just have for about ever.

That store is...impressive. They have ALL the DVD shelves RIGHT there when you walk in. No New Releases shelf, but I found my way to my boys (on the TV shelf) fairly quickly. They had plenty of copies, all shiny and pretty.

When I was standing in line to by my pretty, I realized I was goin' fall down soon. Sugar was needed. In a fit of Kyle XY fannishness, I grabbed me some sour gummie candy. That helped at first... But by the time we were half-way home, I was ready to either throw up or faint or scream till my head finished exploding.

At home, before I feel on to the sofa to moan into some pillows...well, it when like this between me and my mom... "Uh, can you open the shed for me?" ("Yeah, I guess.") "And tell [Brother] we're home?" ("Okay...") "And, just, um, KILL ME." ("Sure!")

She's so helpful.

I flopped on the sofa, moaned a lot and opened my DVD. Then I went to the computer and nearly cried as my eyes started pounding eve more. I wished for sweet, sweet death.

As my man Jaime Lannister said, The things I do for love.

At some point I managed to look at the actual DVD set. It's quite nice. Bonus DVD, ads with the boys as centerfolds.
I like the fold-out style with overlapping disks. It stays together better than sets with the disks in their own cases, and it doesn't spread out over the WHOLE sofa when you unfold it like the old Buffy and Angel fold-out sets. Of course, you've gotta take out half the disks to get to the other ones... I have all those styles and many more. I probably like best the ones that open like a book, each clear holder a sort of page. But this style seems to be used more and more lately.

Besides the stupid summary on the back, the art doesn't suck. I like the episode guide being worked into the cardboard. I don't lose those things, but it's easier to read off the package...

The art on the disks themselves is nice. Cool pics next to the one of Sam and Dean. I'm used to seeing different individual characters (or sets of 'em) on each disk, but I guess with only the two regulars it would look odd if every one-off got a disk to themselves.

Most of all, I love the stuff behind the disks. Maps, old postcards. Beauty. Actual DVD art that FITS the show. Yeee-es!

I might even watch some of it tomorrow. Gotta check to make sure all the disks play and to see the menus.

My head still hurts, and probably will for a day or two if I stay away from fuckin' cars. But I'm finding it hard to reads on the computer, so sorry for any mistakes here... I have a rant from last night, but that can wait for tomorrow. I'm just glad to finally have my SN season one set to sit on my shelf right between Firefly and season two of The Wire.

But most of all I can only think, Car bad, season two pretty. Brain go melty.
