Yes. There's a belief according to the book that the Archfiends made a pact with a certain part of the upper echelons of the Sanctuary, and they got discovered.
The thing is. The time around they fell, from what I know, these were basically the strongest loyalists to the Sanctuary's order and schemes.
The Sanctuary refuses to expound except the Darklords betrayed the Sanctuary, but won't give any specifics. "Traitors. That's all you need to know." is the official stance.
Personally, as one who's debated it several times, I personally like the Cake Theory. But it's definitely one of the major mysteries of the 12 Dimensions, for certain.

Thank you. Because, really, it definitely sounds quite interesting to me.
Though I'm surprised, admittedly. I didn't know that there'd be such controversy around something like the Sanctuary in the Sky.
