Impossible to say, I've dug up several cases of people being executed in Iran when they've been charged with homosexuality IN ADDITION to other serious offences, such as abduction, rape and murder. But I can't locate a case where someone has been executed soley for a homosexuality conviction. In any event, that's not what happened, so it makes no sense to speculate on "what if" situations.
Given Iran's justice system it's quite possible, but no one is suggesting that, they're simply ignoring them altogether. It's one thing to claim that and quite another to just pretend it doesn't exist. The rape charges are there and they're part and parcel of this. The facts are that they were executed for rape, not for homosexuality, even though they were also found guilty of that.
