Well if you think this is a good move then go for it. Besides it sounds like a short term contract so you're not tied down too long. It's not really throwing yourself into the deep end. Think of it as trying something new and besides if it doesn't work out I'm sure there are other places you'd easily get into.

Staff positions make sense in turns of security/leave etc but the down side is lower remuneration over an expected long term. Given that’s its unlikely for the I.T. market to crash and "long term" is open to interpretation I say go for it.If you want 4 weeks off a year then put away 7 or 8% of your earnings to cover it. Make hay while the sunshine's and blaze your reputation/career now. (Don't forget while on Contract you're putting away more Super too). When "His Holy Eminence Jobs I" calls you up begging for you to come on board THEN you can settle for a nice cushy staff role with a monogrammed coffee cup and choice of hunky P.A.
