From a press release by the State Gov:

A new top coat seal on Northam's airport taxiway and runway will make take-off and landing safer for aircraft using the busy regional facility.
...
"The airport currently handles an estimated 8,000 aircraft movements each year."

over 21 flights a day.. DAMN!
Nice little earner then with the landing fee's.

hmm but its Northam... in a couple of weeks the black top will be covered in graffiti and turned into a drag strip!

Totally possible, all that's landing there is very small, light planes, so that's all they really need.

Why are people *flying* to Northam, and who are they? It's so close, makes no sense.

It's not really people who are flying there, it's a bit of a centre for recreational aviation. Stuff like gliders, hot air baloons, skydiving, that sort of thing. Also because of all the farms there's stuff like crop dusting and survey flights.
