Now I feel like I can answer the nice stuff.
I *always* wonder how Dean gets his damn car back. I wondered that after 5.03, too. (Not 5.03. 5.04. The one with the... thingy, and the other thing.)
I'm a bad fan-- I know I'm supposed to be concentrating on the 'omgGRIEF for Ellen & Jo' and instead I'm worried about the car, and 'Did they pick up the Colt after Dean got flung into that tree? Because it might not kill Lucifer, but it's still useful against other baddies.'
“You’ll break the spine, Dean!” Sam squawked in his memory
PET PEEVE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Oh, Dean. We can never be friends, now.
I've seen him do this in canon. Probably not all the books they consult are ancient and brittle, but it makes my library-self cringe anyway.
I'm glad those lines worked for you. And thank you again for the immense amount of help on this. And the poking to post.
Very exciting, vivid fic! I found myself holding my breath so many times--I would love to see this as a canon episode (it wouldn't even take that much money to film, I don't think). This is a perfect companion to unoshot's Angels We Have Heard: Castiel hurling himself through space to escape danger is such a thrill-ride, and now with two extra passengers and some serious injuries, it ups the ante even more.
The quieter moments are lovely as well. I love the way Castiel refuses to directly answer any of Dean's questions about his powers or lack thereof--very in-character. And angel Babelfish FTW!
Beautiful, you took a post the-ep-i-haven't-seen-but-can't-bear-to-think-about fic and added a really creepy monster and Caring!Dean and Awesome!Sam (I'll let him wind down a bit LOL) and Whumped!Cas and wow.
