Okay, I never read John/Dean (or John/Sam for that matter), and only read it because it's from you. *pets my poor, poor Dean* If John were abusive to the boys, I could see it more as verbal insults and maybe the occasional backhand if John had too much to drink and someone (Sam) mouthed off. That being said, if this were to happen, I think I agree that it would be an extension of his obsession with hunting.
Also, where's my darling Sammy while all this is going on? See, the sequel to this is years later, when Dean has to "train" Sam, because Sam is too whiny for John to bother with.
Yeah, I did think about Sam, but it was just going to get complicated considering it's only meant to be a comment fic. I'm imagining Sam, locked in the bathroom while this is happening, tears staining his cheeks, because he so very badly wants to switch places with Dean to spare him the pain.
I can never ever see Dean treating Sammy badly. Dean is just so self-scarificing. No, ya see, Dean would be all gentle about it, protective. He'll offer to do it, so John doesn't have to (he's so busy and all). But, really, it's a way to protect Sam from John.
