Confessional?

Despite our bad Dilbert-esque reputation, I don't think there is a manager alive who enjoys giving bad news to employees. I think I go a step further, and feel like I need to crawl out of my evil, managerial skin whenever I have to do so. I've got a guy who is trying to move himself and his non-working wife from his country to here, and was ( Read more... )

I feel the same way when I have to call CPS sometimes... not when the parent is the one doing the abuse, but rather when they have such chaotic lives and messed up situations that they can no longer care for their children the way they would like to... they mean well, but they simply cannot do right by their children. I know they put themselves in the situation, but I still feel badly for what I have to do and how it impacts the family.

Well...I did choose to give him his bad performance grade. He was not doing his job! I couldn't excuse it, especially considering how much money this guy is making.
Just think, though - you are helping change a child's life for the better! They don't have any advocates, except for you. That should make you proud. =)

Hmm. Well, if he wasn't doing his job, then... there's really nothing you can do. =/

As for calling CPS, I would feel better about doing it if I felt like calling actually did result in an improvement in the lives of my clients. Unfortunately, I feel as though it more often results in a lot of awful complications or nothing actually changes for the family at all, except that they no longer trust me because I called.

Oh, well. I'll stop being a pessimist now. Sometimes it does help. =)
