Typically, I get very little sleep during the big family holidays, mostly because I want to hang out with everyone as much as possible. This year, however, I was almost too scared to sleep a couple of nights. Here's the story: every year, all us cousins sleep in the same places we did when we were little, boys in the living room and girls in the tv ( Read more... )

I think you might have enjoyed the song my (English-speaking) SIL and I composed about it, entitled "Cama de Hospital - No Gracias!"

Gawd, how weird! I'd have been sooooo uncomfortable.

It really was uncomfortable. And what a control freak, designating which bed each person had to sleep in.

The next night, when we were back in our grandparents' house, it was SO windy it sounded like someone was trying to kick the front doors in. My relatives teased us about "bringing ghosts back" with us.

Yes and yes. I mean, I can look at it and realize it's not funny, that lady's alone and probably knew damn well no one would stay there given full disclosure. But come on, she still came over for Christmas dinner, and could've done so without dragging us back with her. I'm still pissed about getting split up into three rooms and missing out on the staying up talking together. It could be the last time we're all there, you know?

That's creepy! I wonder why she's kept them. Old people that have lived through the depression keep the weirdest (and creepiest, apparently) stuff. Maybe she figures that she can die in it herself?

No wonder she's all alone, LOL!

Oops, I guess some of that is clear as mud, isn't it? The neighbor is the daughter of the couple that owned the house. She's been getting the place ready to sell for a while, so I still can't figure out why those weren't gone long ago! Adding to the mystery- she has a twin sister in town, but spent Christmas Eve with us. All of it is just strange.
