Haven't posted one of these in awhile. Here is one I have been playing with enough to like.

Homonyms

Say organs and it's unclear
whether you mean the instruments
that make the fugue of the body
or the ones looming in cathedrals.

Say plain and the adjective
describes the landscape,
the topography unremarkable,
the land guileless and broad.

i really like this...
is it just me, or does everyone have a personal stash of homonyms in their brain that they use for examples? the first one that comes to me is always content.

I think this poem would be better if it didn't end so ambiguously. By that I mean TAKE A STAND. But I don't understand you poet types.

the ambiguity is the point. but i think you know that. and i resent being called a "poet type." i dont drink nearly enough coffee or cry enough to be a "poet type!" (at least i hope so. i hope so.) what else do poets do? lead tortured lives.

but i learned that this poem won second place in cellar door! chosen by tony hoagland, one of my favorite poets. so HE didnt mind the ambiguity. so POO. POO on YOU!
