never tried it and never will. i prefer eating food that dont make me puke. oh but i might try it if i go on fear factor.
i have no idea how it tastes like, but i guess to the people in those cultures, this yucky looking thing does taste yummy hence they treat it as a delicacy. it is definitely no delicacy to someone who isnt well-exposed to it.
Noooot really. It's been around since forever, so we don't really see it as something disgusting. It's like eating any other type of food. It's not as if we treat it as a dare every time we go down the corner to buy one of these things.
i've never tried it, and will never try it. it looks EXTREMELY gross, it's like, can you imagine some other species eating your foetus?
i guess i'm fine with the cambodians and philippinos eating them and treating them as a delicacy, but i'll probably throw up should anyone put the embryo in front of me or even eat it. i'm fine with it, as long as it is out of my sight.
Again, haven't tried, and wouldn't try it. It'll probably taste fine, but it's just the look of it. I guess it's the fetal position of the duck which looks an awful lot like that of a human baby, except for the bill, and I wouldn't like to eat a baby(or something that resembles a baby), born or not. I might eat it if I didn't have to look at it, but I don't see the point. I feel eating is meant to be enjoyed, not so much another chance to further torment ourselves. But I've no problems with people who like it, again a culture issue. But I still think it looks pretty gross.
never ate it and never will. it's cruelty towards animal! it has a life and it's ended prematurely :( (neither am i advocating ending its life when its mature but i wont go there..) also, it doesnt look very appetizing to me cause i've a habit of not eating any meat in its full body(i.e. whole fish/chicken).. it's just a repulsive idea to poke dead carcasses on a dinner table.
different people have different take! perhaps some people find pig/beef organ soup repulsive?? but i guess singaporeans have the most conservative eating habits in the region..
i seriously dun know how anyone can swallow this down their throat? even the sight of it is enough to put me off. this dish has definitely crossed my limit of "aceptable food". how people can find this a delicacy is a miracle. does it give them saddistic when they hear the crunch of the bill and bone of the duck?
true. different countries have different culture, different delicacies. can be compared to how the french swallow snails(escargos).how pple react to different "delicacies" depend on their upbringing and culture.
but as an individual, i do have my own threshold.as an asian, the balut is a definite no.
