Insect is a common street food easily found in Thailand and this delicacy is said to have originated from traditional Northeast Thailand diet. Some popular insects include cockroaches, grasshoppers, scorpions, maggots, and centipedes. These insects are most commonly fried, but can also be steamed, grilled, boiled or eaten raw! i`ve tried grasshoppers and crickets but only because i was dared to. they actually taste like ordinary crispy chips except when the goo starts squishing out of their bellies! it`s not something i would have everyday, and i doubt people actually do enjoy them. seriously, considering how they look rather distasteful, i doubt anyone eats insects as a staple! but i guess it`s a novelty, or perhaps it`s perceived as just another one of those strange things 'we asians do'. someone once said asians eat anything and everything, but perhaps for all the wrong reasons!

Comments:
-never tried it before
-because my eating habits are still fairly conservative
-don't really know much about it, whether it's safe or how much it costs and stuff. lack of information i suppose.
-see no point eating grasshoppers when there's an abundance of more conventional food around
-might only try it with more background information and if there's really no other choice
-don't consider insects as a delicacy. consider them as more of exotic food for people with adventurous tastebuds.
-got no problems with people who like eating insects. think that they're quite adventurous really.

If you have tried it: NO. I believe the eating experience should include being served slightly aesthetically pleasing food at the very least. Besides, I don't like twisties.

Might try *one* if in Thailand for culture's sake.

Q1&2: Each to his/her own. I think I'll stick to chicken for now, thanks!

5)I didn't try it before because I dislike/fear insects from the first place. Nothing will make me eat them; even if the King of Thailand offers me a cockroach I will reject it, politely.

As I have expressed above, I do not find the above food a delicacy at all, but rather, something revolting. But I am not against those who find it a delicacy because, food, is subjective. Like for example, foei gras in France. A stew of a rat in Italy. I don't have to say anything about China. I think Eskimos eat seals and whales.

So in conclusion, I am quite open about the different tastes of people all around the world. Food is an important part of culture and their uniqueness should be treasured and protected.
