Busy. Away from home or working and having to get up on Thursday at a very early time to get to work to open the place up for the election (the building is used as a polling station).
In the mean time, it would appear that I have found a new favourite film: King Arthur, Legends of the Sword. I'm sure everyone else is going to point out all the rubbish bits of it, but I don't care, I really, really enjoyed it. A bit like liquorice allsort tiffin, theres no way any of the ingredients taste that good, but somehow you can't help eating three pieces of it.
There were a few bits which really stood out. First was just how British it all was, how Eastenders with no smart arse smug comments that sound like they come straight out of the Buffy handbook for Aspiring Dialogue Writers. I had fun playing spot the (british or Irish) actor, and saying "it's only a model" from time to time. There was also an air of Dragon Age about it with Knights and Mages and giant animals (ok, those weren't dragons).
It also looked very British, or more exactly very Scottish. If there had been more rain, it would have looked perfect! Blasted Heath was the phrase that I immediately thought of. It wasn't a spruced up version of bleak, like you find in New zealand, with the snowy peaks and green grass below. It was just dull grasses and bits of rock that was very familiar. That's the Scottish Highlands all over, and I was very taken with it.
But the bit I liked the best was the music. Celtic with a heavy bass and thick drums brought the look and feel of the film together. I could listen to the soundtrack all day.
I suppose it also helped that I went to see it with no expectations at all, high or low, I hadn't been expecting anything Arthurian, which is probably just as well. I just showed up, drank (decafinated) coffee and watched the film. Then the next day I came back and watched it again. I've very surprised I liked it so much, perhaps the whole feel of the film, the music, the atmosphere just hit a sweet spot in my thinking.
Do I want to go romping around in that fandom? Hmm... That's a question for another day.
