So, I have been busy writing. Don't gasp in shock all at the same time. My current fiction writing total is about 11k! That 11K more than I've written in about 5 years :) Fun game!
2 projects, one new and one revamped (no pun intended - see later). The revamped one is original fiction that has been lying around for about 15 years. It stalled at about 65k words and on a whim I took the original files with me when I was staying with my dad for a few nights last week. I stayed up until about 1 in the morning rereading them all and then starting rewriting bits. What was most interesting was the initial parts, which were really well outlined. As I wrote more in fanfic-land I outlined less well, I think. But for a big project like a novel I think it really helped and I had forgotten how I did it. It was refreshing to see the way I worked through the ideas.
The other project is a new fandom. I’m sure you’re not surprised that it’s in King Arthur, Legend of the Sword, considering I gushed about it a few weeks ago. It just started with a simple scene, but that has grown into something else. First chapter might be ready in a few days. It’s given me the chance to brush up on my Dark Age History, and the so-called Matter of Britain. I always found Le Morte d’Arthur a bit of a trial to get through, I’m not even sure I finished it. The Once and Future King was much more enjoyable. I’m going to have to find a copy of “Excalibur”, from the 1980s. That was a brilliant film, and that soundtrack was excellent as well: Wagner and Carl Orff. Not to mention Nicol Williams in a smooth silver hat. I saw it again about 4 years ago for the first time in ages, and I was surprised at the number of famous British actors that showed up. Qui-Gon Jin, Captain Picard, Richard Bucket, HM the Queen, that guy who was in “Evil under the Sun”. And all the rest as well!
Anyway, I have also discovered the Syfy was showing some of the old Buffys, and I have been binge watching a few of those when I can't sleep (which is disturbingly often at the moment). Season 5 still is my favourite, even if Glory is very annoying and it's a little bit "rocks fall and everyone dies" at the end. Tonight I finished watching the last 2 Season 6 episodes, and that was also a little bit "Rocks fall and everyone dies". But it also reminded me of what I admired about the way Buffy was written - the art of leaving stuff lying around. It was only when you got to the end and thought back about how the ending came together that you realised that he’d been leaving stuff all over the place for use in the finale. I really liked that when I first saw the episodes, all those years ago.
And I have been practicing writing my (Online) name in elvish runes, Quenya style obviously. This is what happens when I spend too much time writing.
