World War II saw the establishment of Fort Roughs, a British military base intended to intercept German aircrafts and missiles. Instead of lying within British sovereign territory, however, the fortress was built on an island located 7 nautical miles off the coast, thus situating it in international waters. When World War II ended, Fort Roughs Tower was deserted and abandoned, which paved way for occupation; on 2 September 1967, former English Major Paddy Roy Bates settled on the island and declared it the Principality of Sealand, now the world's most famous micronation.
Sealand is England’s little brother and the smallest nation in world: An old World War II steel platform that has long since been abandoned by England. He declared himself a sovereign Principality in 1967 in what was international waters. However when Great Britain changed their territorial waters, Sealand’s territory was no longer in international waters.
No country in the world recognizes Sealand as a sovereign nation because of many reasons including: A) He lies in Britain’s waters now; B) He is not a naturally-made nation.
Sealand has only 4 citizens and one solider guards the platform while the royal family is away. He also sold himself online for €750 million and Sweden tried to buy him. Thus he is seen hanging around and playing with Sweden and Finland. In 2006, Sealand did burn down but was rebuilt.
I am taking him from the Present time line since, even though the platform that Sealand calls home existed in World War II, he was not born aka did not become Sealand the nation until 1967.
