There's a book I think you should perhaps read in order to understand some of the alchemical and magical aspects of Tarot cards... :)

I've been looking at one book, but it's more of a pictorial key...

The book is called Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot and the author is Lon Milo DuQuette. The copy I just finished reading isn't mine, or else I'd offer to loan it to you... but I might end up buying my own copy. The Thoth cards are really interesting in how they deviate from "standard" Tarot conventions as well... and don't let anybody scare you off with "oh noes Crowley is teh evils" because the cards themselves are wonderful!
