To do instead of not

I have not drawn anything for months. My 'art desk' has all my materials spread out on it, I have a bookcase with many art books. I have looked at these books and have gotten more from the library, which I have also looked at. I think about how I need to make some artwork a lot, especially while I am at work transporting animal food and/or waste ( Read more... )

yes, definitely- stop thinking, start drawing.
I've been fighting a similar thing lately- where I fall into traps of thinking and adding up all the reasons that something will be a challenge or why I'm not in the right mood to work- and I find (again and again) that if I just start working I get drawn into it and can't stop until it's dawn (I mean, until it's done... freudian slip, there).

As a for instance, last night I had the mix of songs that I want together for a new demo album to sell at gigs, and I thought I'd never manage to get any cover art done (the desk is cluttered, the computer's slow, don't have any good photos to use). then I made myself start, and then it was done.

It's like we forget, when we're not doing those things, how easy it is to get inspired by what we've started.

So go you- sit down at that board and get to work!!

oh, and yes you can totally become a damn illustrator. you are great with the pictures!

Thankx, Mr. Bill. You and I are like minded in the artist mentality and I appreciate your supportive jive-talks.

Oh, Please do this! I love your work!

I don't know how it is for artist, but for writers I think one of traps is feeling like they have to go chronologically. Perhaps inspiration/ideas are not thought, but discovered through other projects?

I think you have a very valid point in saying that inspiration and ideas are discovered through other projects! So many creative processes are connected that way, it's neat. Like, through theater I've gotten more ideas/inspiration for art and vice versa.

I think that is why keeping a sketchbook is so important; it's like a visual journal. Hey, I haven't been doing that either...urg!

Drawing will be coming up soon...I have until midnight for it to qualify for today :P Tx 4 encouragement!

pages...? sealpup_otter June 15 2007, 21:30:45 UTC
I have your old Harold the Ghost story that I printed ages ago...and I've been over thinking that like mad. However, i do not have new Big Doggie pages. If you have them the way to send them is via my yahoo account (jolenevhowell at yahoo dot com). My St. Mary's alumni account is way dead.

For extra fun you could post them on LJ. Everyone's life could be improved by a little more Big Doggie.
