How many people actually believe in the superstitions that go along with it?

There's one where you light a candle on Halloween and then never burn it again. Something to do with keeping bad luck away.

Depends on the superstition. Many of them have change over time to lose their original meaning.

Costumes, for example. Originally it was believed that by dressing as evil spirits one could pass among them or drive them away.
