US culture: The Renaissance Fair

I am greatly amused by it and think it's fun. Next year I may go in costume myself, but mostly I love just looking at people and things. Your mom and aunt sound like fun people. I haven't had strangely shaped candles, but as you saw, I just bought a dragon to hang on my wall!

Been ages since I've been to one of those, when my son was an infant. He's 19 now, to give you an idea.

Thank you for posting so many photos!!

Wow, Puke and Snot get around - they're at our local Ren Faire August-October.

I was interested to read your impressions as I've always wondered what Europeans make of "Rennie" culture - I guess y'all don't have much like this in Sweden?

Well, we have plenty of historical festivals, the most known one being the medieval festival in Visby on the island of Gotland each August. But what differs are the levels of anachronisms and the big influence and mixture of fantasy elements in the US ren-fair world.

I've made posts of the Swedish versions in previous years, and they are well worth visiting, in particular the Gotland one!
