I am in strong agreement with Tufte (warning: enormous PDF) on this. PowerPoint makes us stupid. It's wonderful that we have all these tools for presenting visual information, but it's absurd that we're expected to do it with everything, in the exact same format.

believe it or not, this week's presentation and last week's defense have been my first ever experience using powerpoint - i'm a luddite, even though i probably spelled it wrong. i've always been way more comfortable with a set of markers. my biggest terror isn't a hostile question that i can't answer - it's the technology not working for whatever reason, and here i'll be on a powerpoint projector and a mic 'cause the room's so big. too much stuff that can go wrong. but if it does, i'll just yell and gesture my way through the thing. it's only 45 minutes

OH GOD...I absolutely HHHAAATTTTEEEDDD learning powerpoint for my speech class... >_< It worked fine for the speech...but I'm not effects savvy so it looked like an elementary school student made the thing...

WITH that said, my nickname is jynx for a reason... this stuff is bound to happen to me...

aww, thanks darlin - i've got until friday afternoon to cram this sucker into a nutshell between the next day's worth of sessions. it'll be fine. and if it isn't, at least it'll be short.
