♛ CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Shiki Misaki
Series: The World Ends With You
Ability: Psychokinesis. Shiki is able to control inanimate objects with her mind. There are limits to her abilities, however; for instance, Shiki's powers are only strong enough to manipulate objects to her advantage that are under ten pounds. Say, for instance, she were to try and use her powers on a refrigerator. She would not even be able to lift it up; give it a little shake if anything, but that's it. Shiki can also only manipulate objects for seven seconds. After the seven-second period is up, the object falls to the floor, and it would take another four to five seconds to get it under her control again.
Position: Second Year Student

Here!History: Born and raised in Armlock, Lacour, Shiki grew up as an aspiring seamstress, being interested in fashion since she was in grade school. Her passion for sewing stuck with her throughout her childhood and followed her to her era of adolescence. Though Shiki was a talented seamstress, her biggest weakness was designing. Though she did create several pieces on her own, such has her stuffed animal named Mr. Mew, she often had trouble sketching designs that were able to satisfy her tastes.
Her trouble with designing was what led her to befriending another fashion-fanatic named Eri. The two girls were like inseparable sisters; Eri came up with the sketches while Shiki worked with fabrics. Eri's bubbly demeanor brought out Shiki's energetic side. The two of them complimented each other well-- rather, so it seemed. Shiki's bond with Eri was more of a one-sided love-hate relationship. Eri was evidently Shiki's closest friend, and Shiki wasn't afraid to let the world know. However, Eri's striking looks, spunky personality, talent for designing, and great popularity drove Shiki to jealousy. Shiki felt inferior to her friend, who was everything that Shiki wasn't-- everything she wanted to be-- pretty, popular, and talented. She hid her feelings well; Eri hadn't suspected anything.
Shiki met her end soon after her fifteenth birthday. She fell victim to a vehicular mishap. It wasn't long until she woke up, blinking her eyes, vulnerable and oblivious. But it was there when she had learned that she had entered the realm of the dead, and that she really was dead, and that she had unknowingly entered the Reaper's Game. This game presented to her the opportunity to be revived back to life... if she won, of course.
She discovered that she had paid a price in exchange for game participation. That was her body-- her real self-- brunette hair, glasses and all. She woke up in Eri's body instead, much to her surprise.
It was also that day when she met Neku Sakuraba. The two of them formed a pact-- a partnership-- and fought alongside of each other to win the game. While Shiki discovered her psychokinesis, as well as her psychomancy powers, she also discovered a bond with her partner that ran deeper than acquaintances. Though she struggled to get the anti-social boy to open up to her, she managed to crack him, and the two grew close over their one-week battle against fate.
Shiki discovered during her stay that Eri was, ironically, jealous of Shiki's talents and her personality. Shiki gains self-confidence, and was able to survive the first week of the Reaper's Game with Neku, and two other players who went by Beat and Rhyme.
It was at the end of the first week where Shiki discovered that she had the highest score in the game. She was released from the game and she, eventually, got her life back.
Personality: One's initial impression of Shiki's persona might be something that is the equivalent to a typical, ordinary, hormone-disturbed adolescent female; she's self-conscious, outgoing, trendy, and even a bit boy-crazy.
However, beyond her exterior, Shiki's mentality runs deeper than an average teenager. She isn't too ditsy to say the least. When faced with difficult situations, she always tries her best to come through, always searching for solutions to her problems. Having a good heart, Shiki always tries to help others, regardless if they are strangers or comrades, even though she might come off as being a little too bossy or naggy.
Though Shiki is a caring individual, her faults lie in her insecurity. Though the game did give her more confidence, she still has reoccurring feelings that make her feel as though she is useless and inferior to other people, which causes her to be jealous of those who she feels are well-rounded. She often doesn't like to speak about her feelings of inferiority, but if she tormented even the slightest bit, she will start to show signs of discomfort. If teased up until a certain extent, she will run away and try to resist making contact with anyone for a little while. Those whom she trusts are exempt from this, however, and she will normally tell them the truth when she isn't as shaken up.
Being a fashion fanatic, Shiki is always up-to-date with the latest trends and styles, and will refuse to wear anything distasteful at her discretion. Shiki will, on rare occasions, criticize someone's fashion sense-- only if she feels as though their current outfit is extremely cringe-worthy and unbearable to look at. She also has impulses to mend loose threads, buttons, etc., being a seamstress in the making.
♜ SAMPLES
Third Person Sample:At first, Shiki grimaced daily from the thought that she was stuck in this school for four years-- four long, grueling years.
Say she were to stay in Armlock. Shiki could have hit it off with her dream career their easily. The city was known for its residents' outstanding pieces of artwork. It was home to painters, sculptors, musicians, and fashionistas alike. It was home to kids with big dreams of making it big in the art industry; kids who wanted their names out there; kids who succeeded.
Shiki had great potential. She could have made a superb career, had she continued her studies in fashion.
But she wasn't in Armlock anymore. This was an island. Yes, it did have a city. Yes, it was inhabited. But this place was nothing like Armlock, and she had convinced herself that she wasn't going to make it out alive. This was not how she wanted to live her life, exercising her psychic abilities. Weren't they good enough to get her through the day as they were? She didn't understand why her parents wanted her to enter the academy initially, especially since they knew of her big dream of becoming a fashion designer.
It took her a while to realize that this experience would be healthy for her. She had abilities, yes, but looking back on the Reaper's Game... she recalled that she did struggle a bit. Shiki struggled to get Mr. Mew under her control; likewise, she was unable to find her limits with her psychokinetic talents. And then she thought about those times where she was unable to control her powers; take for example, the pair of scissors that she put under her possession one day that nearly sliced Eri's head off because Shiki was unable to control its direction. Putting anyone in danger like that scared her to no end.
"Don't worry," Shiki muttered discreetly. "It'll be fine. I can do this! I'll make friends. This is a learning experience, right?"
Mr. Mew's round, beady eyes peered up at her as he nodded to console her. Shiki flashed a grin at her stuffed animal, now under her powers, and she gave him a nice pat between his ears. "You've always been there for me. Thanks."
First Person Sample: [She's sitting on a table in the courtyard, her eyes fixed on the notebook in front of her while a mechanical pencil dances between her fingers.]
Periodic table... K is... lithium? No, that's Li, right? Or... ugh, this is so frustrating!! I knew I shouldn't have dozed off in class today. I feel like I'm even more of a slacker than Neku!
[ Shiki heaves a sigh, roughly placing her pencil on top of her notebook in favor of picking up Mr. Mew, gazing tiredly into beaded black eyes.] Maybe I should borrow someone's notes for the night. What do you think?
