Katrina + 4

Many think Hurricane Katrina was just an unavoidable natural disaster. And it was, if you only look at the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

In the city of New Orleans, Katrina was a man-made disaster, caused by the worst failure of civil engineering in history. All of the flooding in the city was caused by a failure of flood walls designed and constructed ( Read more... )

This post reminds me of a Steel Pulse song. You're right, about your America dying that day. Mine was already dead. I read a quote this morning that sums it up pretty nicely.

"Our country seems to be run by a majority of cowards."

Their fear stretches through every fabric, informing the masses and dictating policies. Our children are taught about brave people who didn't live here, and whose acts go against the fiber of what we're allowed to do. Anne Frank would have been jailed here too, raped used and died. Nelson Mandela would have been killed in prison, eventually.

President Obama's response dietermanfred September 9 2009, 01:51:49 UTC
Well stated announcement James and I believe the Corp's shoddy work is to blame and will be dragged out through the courts someday. It is so pitifully slow and I thought when this administration came to office progress would really take off. But the financial crisis took the wind out of the New Orleans recovery sails. Obama is trying his best to get things done with health care and the economy but look at all the road blocks in his way. It would be interesting to see what could be accomplished if he could act like a dictator for one year. He has access to all these really smart people. Even his own party is hamstringing him on health care. All this screaming about government regulation is a red herring. I think it is immoral for these insurance companies to have so much control, or anyone for that matter involved in the health care business to control the lives to those who can not afford health care. Charity hospital is even an issue in New Orleans as you know. People here had to start a "Save Charity" organization ( ... )

Thanks, Manfred. Unfortunately, many people in this barbarous country think otherwise, that New Orleans got what it deserved, and that "throwing good money after bad" isn't necessary. We have to keep talking about it and fighting for justice.
