You know, I was just thinking- there are a whole range of squicks out there- things that just make your skin crawl- but there are one or two that seem to be unique to the geek/fan type. Y'know, I feel exactly the same thing, especially with that sort of mainstream pop comedy which relies upon people being utterly humiliated, though I never saw anyone put it into words so well.

I think you could well be right with the social problems issue.

I think we actually talked about this at one point- it was one of the conversations that sort of inspired this post.

It just strikes me that while so much of the mainstream seems to find humiliations amusing, most geeks find it painful, in no small part because it's something that they worry about .

So, it's not just me that leaves the room when the "sorting-this-business-out" scene comes on? This is actually really interesting, I wonder if I could do my thesis on it.

Nope- I've been leaving the room for that sort of stuff as long as I can remeber- even in cartoons it bothered me enough that I couldn't watch it.

And it would make an interesting thesis.
