I'm in! ::does dance of manic glee::

Um. Anyway.

Also, massively belated birthday-fic for elspethdixon. Sorry this is so late- it's been sitting on my computer, waiting for the last three lines to write themselves.

Miriam had asked Kit about it once, whether he felt that same hollow ache when Matt talked about the future. Kit had only shrugged, given her a crooked smile, and said "Listening hurts less," and that was that.

Aw. They're both so messed up, but in such an understated way, like people who've had the need to avoid making a scene ground into them. Because good Jewish girls don't make waves, and good scions of the Anglo-Irish upper-class keep a stiff upper lip. No matter how screwed up they are.

The whole thing had this feel of quiet despair to it that seemed very Miriam-like, if that makes any sense.

There are a few tense issues (most of it's in present tense, but the "in the past" bits are in past prefect rather than just simple past) but they might actually be just my own issues with present tense and not real tense problems at all.

Yeah, I thought there were tense issues here. I've been over this a few times in the process of writing Matt and Kit's stories, but it seems like every time I catch something, it throws off something else.
I was iffy on the tense shifts, because I don't really like present tense all that much myself, but it was the only way I could think of to work in all the elements I wanted.
