D-Day

OK, it's fun to get all 666 about today, but I'd like to take a moment to mention that, in the real world, today is the anniversary of the launch of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy, more commonly known as D-Day. Thanks for the reminder. My father fought in D-Day, and was also a part of the Italy campaign, where he met his first wife.

Wow, he actually fought in D-Day? Has he ever spoken to you about it? I can't help but wonder how something like that affects a person. It can't be possible to walk away from such events unscathed, unchanged.

Unfortunately my father passed when I was six.
I know that memories of the Italian campaign gave him nightmares up till the time of his death in the mid 1970's.
Obviously my father was much older then my mother, his second wife.
