That's funny because I tried to ctrl select things to change the size of particular lines. All or nothing. I don't know if powerpoint just doesn't do that, so who knows whether your crazy fix will work for me or not.

Try eet! I didn't know that anyone used that functionality, so that's pretty wild to me. What if you had to use a regular mouse! You'd feel neutered.

My laptop has the same thing. Most of the time it's not much of an issue for me, but my favorite is when it spontaneously minimizes whatever I was doing because I managed to hit a magic meta-button. Sure, suer I could be smart and go to what I'm sure is just a control panel and turn it off much as you did, but really, why would I do something logical like that?

On another note (and a separate post because I'm trigger happy with the post comment button) I've had the exact same problem with my last HP. Eventually the random power failures corrupted the boot sector and the volume information on my hard drive so not only was I unable to boot, but when I hooked it up as an external drive on my new machine, it didn't think it was formatted. Weeks of digging through freeware utils and $30 worth of software (I resigned myself to the fact that "freeware recovery tools" is synonymous with unicorns and the tooth fairy) later I managed to salvage three months worth of photos I had yet to back up.

The next machine I bought was a Toshiba.

I named my new laptop "Adele". I dare you to guess what brand it is. ;)

My HP's hard drive was thankfully a SATA drive, so I was able to hook it up to my desktop without any problem to get the files off. I was really hoping to get another Pavilion "body" on the cheap and just pop the hard drive into it.

But despite that it's the more expensive option, I think I like the new machine. 64-bit processor, and 64-bit Vista to go with it. (32-bit Vista is a joke!) 4 gigs of ram, and a hard drive twice the size of the old one. Except for the onboard video card, I think this machine is now better than my desktop.

If you ever are in a pinch and need to pull data off a drive, I've got a USB dongle that hooks up to SATA and both laptop and desktop size IDE plugs. You're welcome to borrow them if you ever need them. I use it as a backup system with the half dozen hard drives of various sizes I have at home. Sure, I'm risking all sorts of issues with static discharge and impact damage on an external drive with no enclosure sitting in a box in my closet, but it's just data, right? right?
