Good to hear from you. Yep, I've met tons of American teachers. The only stipulation for going on a course to get one of these qualifications is a sufficiently high level of English. The trick is getting a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) or equivalent, meaning something that offers at least 6 hours teaching practice, and would probably last for 120 hours.

THe only complaint I've heard from an American teacher is that she's using British English textbooks, which have the wrong pronunciation for her, as well as the question form "Have you got...?" as an alternative to "Do you have...?"
