often the character will be different. but the pronouncation is similar. just tonal difference. such as hao, with the third tone is good, with the 4 tone is day (is the numbered day of the month... like today is shi'er yue shi'qiu hao (12 month 19 day). What sucks is getting the right character order. their grammer is non-existant.
