As he drove carelessly down the highway, he thought of his own father’s funeral. Over a hundred people attended, a large number of which Ben had never seen before in his life. As he and his family gathered in a line at the back of the church to receive condolences, Ben was surprised by how compassionately these complete strangers hugged him as he cried uncontrollably. The events in Ben’s life up to that point had led him to lose faith in humanity, and although the death of his father had pushed him to reject the friends that it pained him to tolerate and quit the job which he had grown to see as irrelevant, Ben could not shake that feeling
