Over the last couple of weeks or so I've been collecting old links to SeaQuest like mad. NONE of this is my stuff, I'm just posting links here so they won't be lost
( Read more... )
I, also as an author, agree with you. Especially if it was lost due to Geocities (or any other hosting site, for that matter) closing, and not because the author consciously removed it from viewing. seaQuest is an older fandom, and a lot of great sites were created for it during the time the show aired and immediately following, and the most popular hosts back then are all gone now, and all the work on those pages was lost.
In a strange way, I kind of liken it to a library burning down, but some of the books inside still be salvageable. :/
I really like the library analogy. I'm working on a document now with LINKS only. And I have found a working site with AT Jackson's fics so I will share the links to those parts... (warning, it is a yahoo groups forum and there are a LOT of parts.)
AT Jackson's fics should not be reposted, but beyond that as someone who has been in this fandom for a long, long time, there is stuff I wouldn't mind reading again.

You may post links to any fan fiction on active or archived websites. That includes direct links to pages via the wayback machine. Since you are posting links to multiple stories at a time, I would prefer that you keep the links in the same post, especially if it is the same author. That will keep the community from overwhelming people's friends pages.
I'm not comfortable with allowing you to post other people's stories, since I wouldn't want people to do that with my work. The general etiquette is to e-mail copies of lost stories directly to people who may be searching for them so you may post a list of stories that you have available. I will make an exception if you find any stories where most of the story is online but links to certain chapters have gone dead or missing. In that scenario, provided that there are no complaints or known restrictions from the author, you may post the missing sections in your journal and link to them here.
