I just wanted to make a post talking about how I just cried my eyes out over yet another shoujo manga, this time Honey Hunt. Lots of good things about this manga. The author is the woman who did Hot Gimmick, which I never read, but I always loved the art on the covers. Second, it's about the entertainment industry, so hot guys who sing and fun ( Read more... )

Yes yes, HONEY HUNT!! I love Yura, and the whole premise of her doing her best to surpass her mom in that quiet, determined way without being obnoxious/angsty about it. XDD Though I do not rec Hot Gimmick at all, because the romance in that series basically gave me an ulcer, among other things, but there you go. I'm hoping Honey Hunt will just steer clear of the whole making-romance-the-main-point-of-the-series and concentrate more on her career in the entertainment biz. XDD

Yeah, I read that Sleep Is For The Weak article and never looked back. I am not really down for abusive relationships in my shoujo manga. Although Itazura na Kiss is well on its way to proving me a hypocrite. :/ *sigh*

omg that article made me see red. It makes me kinda ashamed that I read shoujo manga, but I usually go for the obscure ones where I don't feel that the girl's in an abusive relationship, so yes....(btw, have any good recs for shoujo manga where the girl isn't being abused and liking it, etc etc? And doesn't have a personality of a doormat?) Hot Gimmick is the worst of the lot, imo. My brain kinda fried on reading the first volume. I chucked it, and when I found out that she actually ENDED UP WITH HIM through spoilers, I wanted to hurt someone. I can't respect anyone who read all of Hot Gimmick, and tells me that they like it and support the main couple. HAVE THEY NO SHAME?!!??!

lmao, don't worry. though I feel like a hypocrite for saying all this, 'cause I've read abusive relationship stuff in yaoi series, and they never bother me so much. *coughJunjouRomantica* ToT

I think all of my favorite shoujo fairly escapes this problem, so I wasn't personally sickened, just you know, properly warned. Just for example, some shoujo I've really liked include W Juliet, Hana Kimi, Crimson Hero, Lovely Complex, Reaching You, Nodame Cantabile, Ouran Kouko Host Club... I'd say that all the heroines here are sufficiently strong-willed, and if they're a a little doormat-ish around their love interest, that love interest is a generally (or spectacularly) good guy. I actually have a bit of a nice guy kink, so perhaps that protected me from the brunt of this issue?

You'll notice I very specifically qualified that I didn't like it in my shoujo manga, hahaha. I guess it's the number of disconnects in yaoi--the readership being almost 100% female, the plots generally bearing little to no resemblance to the lives/choices of actual ( ... )

Speaking as someone who only read cleolinda's commentary/re-cap, I have to say that Jacob's section was by far my favorite. Vampire Bella was just so cracky and wonderful that I forgot all about her being a Mary Sue, even as she became more Mary Sue than ever. I am officially looking forward to the movie just to watch the crazy fandom.

Most of my add-ons crossed over, but the MOST IMPORTANT ONE did not. I was able to find an updated version Firefox didn't find when it searched for updates and it works fine. (It's my built in Japanese dictionary, FYI.) So if you have a super important add-on, search for it and see if they have come up with an update.

I wish I could tell people to read these books, because some of the side characters are seriously awesome, but then I remember the actual focus of the books is the sappiest, most unrealistic teen romance that ever sparkled across the proverbial page and I realize I have to leave it up to their own discretion. Damn Stephanie Meyer and her stabbing of her own feet!

The Twilighters bewilder, frighten, and sadden me. I find it funny that RPattz feels the same way and yet is not allowed to come out and say it. Poor RPattz, I hope you bring an element of dignity to this freak show because otherwise I don't see how you are going to live with yourself.
