NAME:
Emilie Martin Summer.

NATION/STATE:
Seychelles

AGE:
23

PRIOR JOB TITLE:
Bilingual Secretary (French and English)

EDUCATION:
Graduated from highschool, worked a while in her family's hostal, then attended college in France and worked as either a secretary or a French-English translator.

HAS YOUR CHARACTER EVER COMMITTED A CRIME? IF YES, PLEASE EXPLAIN:
Nope.

DID YOUR CHARACTER JOIN NATION CORP. WILLINGLY?:
Yep, yep.

SKILLS:
Good with people, always cheerful, strong alcohol tolerance, hard-working. Speaks French and English fluently.

PERSONALITY:
Sort-of a country girl at heart, Emilie tries to not let that affect her in her relationships with others. She is exhuberant, cheerful, always in motion, as if she's following a sort-of internal melody. She sometimes sings when in a particularly good mood and is always willing to help her friends and workmates out. She's quite diligent and good at handling customers and other people, being used to such interactions ever since she worked part-time at her family's hostal.

Despite her naïvete, however, do NOT mistake her as a doormat or an airhead: Emilie can also be quick-tempered and sassy when in a bad mood, not hesitating to speak out her mind when she thinks things are wrong and being quite ready to shoot down anyone who tries to take advantage of her or her friends, whom she's fiercely devoted to.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Emilie is tallish and has quite tanned skin, as well as brown eyes and long, wavy black hair that she keeps tied with red ribbons (or a red headband, when at work).

Though she wears the standard office lady cloths, she also adds her own "spin" to her looks, like a necklace with a tiny seashell that her mother gave her before leaving the Seychelles islands, or a pair of earrings that an old friend gave her as a birthday present.

HISTORY:
Emilie's family comes from the Seychelles islands, a small and multicultural country with lots of heritages: African, Arab, French, English, etc. More exactly, the first Martin arrived there as a Frenchman who was a worker under Governor Jean Baptiste Quincy, then fell in love with the beautiful islands and a native woman and then decided to stay there as a colonist. [French settlement, Quincy era.]

Emilie's father Boris Martin was a free-spirited man from Victoria who had both French and English heritage and a love of registering the world in pictures and photos. Her mother Laura Summer, on the other hand, was the daughter of the owner of a popular hostal near to the beach, and she also had an active part on handling the business ever since she was young. They never got married and in fact he left the islands to work in France when Emilie was very young, but they did what they could to not make the little girl feel alone: Boris never let more than two months pass without sending Laura and Emilie postals, photos, souvenirs of whatever place he was working in. . . [Seychelles's matriarchal society, mixture of both English and French names)]

Due to all of this, despite having her father work abroads and away from her, Emilie grew into a rather normal and cheerful girl, usually seen working in the hostal or spending her free time in the nearby beaches. There were so many things to do here and there: waitressing, keeping house, searching for coco de mer, fishing, watching birds, collecting fresh orchids for the hostal, acting as an impromptu guide to the tourists coming to the hostal - and double if they were British or French, since Emilie was fluent in both of their languages as well as the Seychellois créole. [French and English influence in the Seychelles islands]

One of the most usual clients that the hostal had was an eccentric French man some years older than Emilie, Francis Bonnefoy, who came at least every two years, at first with his family and later alone. When Emilie was a little girl, he help her fish and play with her; as she grew, he more than once groped her, much to her anger. But his main contribution was to notice that Emilie's bright intelligence and her desire to see the world that her father told her about via cards, letters, later e-mails...

It was thanks to Francis's suggestion that, around two years after Emilie finished highschool in Seychelles, she applied to a French college. After being accepted there, the girl left her islands to study in France, while also doing some jobs to pay what her saving didn't cover. Her efforts finally paid fruits: she got the Nation Corp letter a while ago and decided to accept, hoping that Francis would see that she had followed his advice and was this close to find her place in the world. . . and that he would keep his hands to himself in the meantime.

OTHER:
[Any other things we should know about?] One of her favorite possessions is "Mr. Tuna", a huge tuna plush that Francis gave her as a gift when she was a child, and to which she has a very child-like attatchment. She sometimes uses it as a pillow due to its soft filling; when not, it's always at the feet of her bed. When she's mad at Francis, though, she either places it on the floor or hangs it from the ceiling.

ACTION POST SAMPLE:
[SAMPLE]
[With a small sigh, she checks her cellphone. So many messages! Her mother had sent her some photos of the newly inaugurated rooms in the hostal, her father sent her pictures of the Paris artist café he was working in, and Francis... Francis...]

... Urgh, you never change do you?

[She presses "delete" as soon as she can. That nude picture would make her the laughingstock of her section if her workmates caught a sight of it!]

Just dissolve, you bastard.

[And tonight would be Mr. Tuna's turn to "sleep" on the floor.]

PROSE SAMPLE:
[SAMPLE. AT LEAST 500 WORDS]

After wrapping self in a fuzzy towel, Emilie stepped out of the shower stall and took a smaller hand towel to dry her long hair. She still missed the big bath tubs in the
hostal she had lived in almost her whole life: yeah, she had to help her mother to keep them clean almost every day as part of her work there, but Emilie loved to take
a relaxing bath with homemade fruit salts whenever she had some time for herself there. Taking long showers and using nice bath gels was nice, but not exactly the
same…

She took her time drying herself and putting on her short night gown. After all, she’d have to run here and there tomorrow, huh? It was her first day of work at Nation Corp, yeah, and she wanted to give a good impression to her new co-workers! She had been the naïve newcomer at work before many times, of course, but she still didn’t want to have anyone laughing at her inexperience or anything like that.

“Well, that’s not gonna happen,” she thought while she tied up her hair in her favorite hairstyle, low pigtails with red ribbons. A little too childish for a work place but perfect for these peaceful moments home alone, recalling the 23 years she had spent in this world.

Her first memories were of the family hostal, back then so big for a little girl who played hide and seek with child tourists and brought homemade dishes to their parents. A tall French boy was her favorite playmate, always finding the most secret hiding spots, bringing her stuffed toys like her loyal Mr. Tuna (which was at the feet of her bed right now) and talking to her about his family’s home in Paris, a city of lights and arts and good food.

Emilie grew fast, working harder in the now bigger and more famous hostal and helping part-time as a tourist guide. That French boy now was a tall and flirty man unable to keep his hands to himself, which earned him scowls and more than one slap from her. But he continued to tell her about life, love, work and the future - he said that she was one smart girl, and that with some more efforts, she could fly high. And following said advice, Emilie left the islands she was born and raised in, building her life in France and now reaching this new place.

Emilie Martin Summer had come a long way. The proof is that she was chosen among many other young professionals to work in this famous company! She was a hardworking, strong-willed young woman, and she always did her best to help those who needed it - she wouldn't change that ever. She owed that to herself, to her parents, and to him...

Now she was lying on her bed, Mr. Tuna sorta “watching” over her from his spot. There was a picture on her night table, featuring a young Emilie in the arms of her still not separated parents, smiling at the camera brightly like she always did.

The smile on the now adult Emilie’s lips, the young woman staring at the picture, wasn’t that different.

“Mom, Dad, Francis, just wait!”

[Re: Saying hi the night before starting my new work!]

I'm doing fine, really! This is my first job for a HUGE company, I know, but I'm very hopeful. The people seem nice, the workplace is big and well-organized, and my apartment is completely clean! The other room is clean and yes, I put the ad for a roommate; the place is rather cheap, but I'd rather have a roomie to share expenses, or I won't have much for savings and all.

Mr. Tuna says hi, too. Or would, if he could talk and all. (Heeee.) I haven't seen Francis, but as Dad said is in the company; will send him him your regards, Mom. And make him keep his hands to himself, thank you.

Time to go to bed, though! Tomorrow will be a very important day, so I must be on top form!

Love ya all,

Emilie.
