"Parental control of child rearing, especially education, is one of the bulwarks of liberty. No nation can remain free when the state has greater influence over the knowledge and values transmitted to children than the family." -Ron Paul in his intro to the Family Education Freedom Act

I LOVE that. I feel that way so strongly. He's talking about public education, I think, but it could also be applied to the media. And it's a chastisement to the parents to get in there and teach! Even if you send them to public school (a valid option in and of itself I think, though there are many flaws within that system that need to be improved upon), and/or let them watch TV/movies, you need to get in there, and talk to them about it! TALK to them about what they're seeing on TV, ask them if it's ok or not, ask them what happened in school, get to know the teachers- build a rapport with them- they spend as much time with your kids as you do! It's important to KNOW them! PTA, volunteering, whatever. Parents need to be involved to impart their values to their kids- and there's not a darn thing Ron Paul can do about parental apathy- it's the parents that have got to change. Personal responsibility, people! (This is why things like seatbelt laws bug me. Decreases personal responsibility ( ... )

I completely agree, even about the seatbelts. Laws like that subconsciously brainwash us to believe it is the Govtmnt's job to do our thinking, our safety-decision-making for us. It's NOT.
