I’m curious, for those of you who have been long-term SS participants, what do you want to see in an archive transition? What elements would be important to you?

I am speaking just for myself but I think a lot of people would agree, I would still like to see the banner challenge and voting for a theme remain. We shall see what others think.

Agreed with teragramm about the banner challenge, which is always fun. In addition, I'd also like to keep ALL the entries posted to Seasonal Spuffy accessible for anyone to read without an account. Which would actually plead for WotS, of the current archives, or for AO3 as has been suggested below (this would be my preference, because of the wider reach).

I'd like to see everything related to a round in one place. Polls, banners, and entries. I wouldn't like to have to go bouncing all over the place following links to find them. As an author, ease of posting.

I voted for my preferred archive because I do not want SS to die, BUT I would like to note that choosing any one of the archives will naturally exclude some possible participants, as there are many potential participants who are not members of any given archive. One of the best things about SS is that it crosses fandom borders. I don't have a good alternative solution, but I would ideally want a place that is unaffiliated so SS could remain a Spuffy Switzerland of sorts.

I completely agree. This is one of the reasons EF took the approach it did; we wanted to ensure those people who wish to participate in the event are able to even if they're not members of the archive (and don't want to be, whatever their reason). There's almost certainly a way to perfect it, though, and I'd love to hear suggestions.

There's also Archive of Our Own, of course... which would be sorta Switzerish? But I'm not clear on how one would establish an event there. Someone who knows more might be able to weigh in.

You can with challenges, prompt memes, and Collections - but you'd need to either do most of (or add to) the community and publicity side of things offsite. If you wanna keep independent from other archives, you could totally do things through a combination of Ao3, a Seasonal Spuffy discord server, and Tumblr tho.

I do want to clarify that EF's approach to the event is not necessarily set in stone. What the Mods proposed was the best option we could come up with while trying to accommodate everyone in the fandom who might want to participate, regardless of where they prefer to publish their material, but that doesn't mean it's the best overall. We're certainly open to suggestions from the community.

So please, don't hesitate to share your thoughts!

What about running it on its own Discord? Then people could share their contributions on any archives, similar to now.

I do now see teragramm's comments about being locked out of Discord, but that seems remediable. Discord seems to me to be the platform closest to LJ when it comes to communities.

I'm sure my being locked out isn't permanent, I just have to figure it out. Although, I do know that most of the SS mods are not comfortable with or very knowledgeable about Discord.

I think it's more daunting than it is actually hard? It just runs on continuous conversations instead of individual posts. But there's no reason you couldn't have a channel where you just post the content.
