It's another boring night in the dorms after a day filled with performances, interviews, and long car rides.
Luhan sighs and leans against Sehun, watching him play Candy Crush again. He chooses not to point out the remaining seconds Sehun has left - he'll lose eventually. The cheerful music coming from the device in Sehun's hands and the noises the game makes would set a happy atmosphere, except Sehun's cursing under his breath sort of ruins it. It's only after Sehun runs out of time does he throw his phone to the side of the bed and sigh. Luhan deems it safe to drop his head on Sehun's shoulder, shifting so his neck isn't in an awkward position.
"What do you think would happen if we were in another universe and not in EXO?" Luhan asks, and glances upwards to see Sehun with his eyes closed, looking like he's already asleep. One nudge against his chin and Sehun's eyes blink open to look down at him. He continues, now that he's got the maknae's attention. "Like, would we even talk to each other? Or know each other?"
Sehun doesn't say anything for a minute, just looking down at his knees, and Luhan shifts uncomfortably, moving so that he's half lying on his boyfriend. It takes another nudge for Sehun to respond. "Well, I'm not sure, but..."
I.
It's never fun to walk out of the dance studio after being yelled at in front of everyone else. Sehun storms out, not even bothering to grab his bag. Jongin will get it for him later anyway. He's so mad - at his teacher, at the students who had stared with wide eyes, but mostly at himself for tripping over nothing and forcing everyone to stop. It's been nearly two months since it had started. Sehun feels like he's missing inspiration or something, because he used to be the best dancer in his class, and now-
"Oof!"
There's a high pitched squeak from the boy on the ground in front of Sehun, and he bends down to see if he's okay as the boy lifts his head to collide with Sehun's nose. Sehun mentally curses his bad luck and blames it on his dance instructor.
"Ow.." Sehun rubs his nose, now staring at the boy on the ground. He thinks about how his day couldn't get worse. And, wow, he must be getting really clumsy. "I'm sorry! It's really my fault. I wasn't looking and-"
"No, it's okay." A soft voice cuts him off, and Sehun can hear the hint of an accent. "Are you injured?"
All Sehun can do is stare as the kid lifts his head up, revealing an angelic face, framed by fluffed up brown hair. He's rendered speechless as the boy looks at him straight in the eyes. "I... no. I'll treat you to coffee to make up for it?"
"It's my first day here, and I really need to get to the dance studio, so I'll just give you my number."
Sehun nods, not even taking in a word the other is saying and handing over his phone. About a minute later, he's left staring at a new contact on his phone, "Luhannie~~", and a disappearing Luhan, heading in the opposite direction.
Eventually, Sehun persuades Luhan to move into his dorm room so he can finally have a roommate, and later they end up dancing together for the end of the year stage. It's not long until both of them start falling.
Sehun's extremely proud of himself for running into Luhan (literally and figuratively) all those years ago, and he tells Luhan as they're cuddling in bed the night before graduation. Luhan just looks at him and punches him in the arm.
II.
Luhan is lonely. Standing by himself in the waiting room backstage while watching the group of younger, happier boys play with each other. All of them are fairly new, so they don't know what the music industry can do to them yet. Luhan has no idea where his manager is, so he's left to stare at the younger artists surrounding him.
"Kai-bai-bo!" A series of giggles breaks out, and Luhan shifts his feet awkwardly.
"Uh... Sunbaenim?" It's cute how Sehun looks down at his feet first and then back up at Luhan. He only knows the kid's name because of how much he sees his name on Weibo, comparing his dancing to Yixing's. Plus, the rainbow hair kinda stands out.
"You can call me hyung, if you want."
"Okay, hyung... I just wanted to say good luck to you!" Luhan realizes that this is his first time against this group of rookies. It's tense between them, the newbies versus the senior. "I really hope that we become closer during our promotion periods!"
There are no cameras recording, and Luhan realizes that the boy's actually serious. Sehun's looking at Luhan with an adorable hopeful look in his eyes. Luhan really isn't supposed to befriend someone rivaling his label mate, but there's something about Sehun. Across from them, one of the members in Sehun's group breaks out rapping to an enamored girl group member.
"Yeah. I hope we'll get closer."
After the win is announced, Sehun runs over to Luhan and whispers in his ear, "Good job, hyung!" He stares as the boy runs back to the other side of the stage, calling for his group to wait for him as they leave to go backstage.
The next week, Sehun doesn't go talk to Luhan, this time participating in a dance battle with another member before nearly knocking something over. As he's being scolded by his leader, Sehun looks over at Luhan and rolls his eyes towards Jongdae - no, his stage name was Chen. All Luhan can do is offer a faint smile as Chen continues berating Sehun for not being careful enough. It's not much, but the simple interaction somehow makes Luhan feel much happier.
This time Sehun's group takes the win - their first, and Chen is still giving his thanks to the fans as Luhan walks over to Sehun and hugs him tightly, muttering a "good job" into his ear. The screaming from the crowd intensifies as they see the embrace, and Luhan inwardly sighs as he thinks of all the articles that'll be published the next day for netizens to see. He still slips a piece of paper with his phone number into Sehun's hand, though.
Later that night, Luhan receives his first text from Sehun.
III.
Luhan makes his way through the people gathered around the center of the dance floor. All he's doing is searching for that one dancer that he saw the other day, and the day before that. Luhan's memorized what he looks like - every single detail. All he wants is his name and his number. There's loud music vibrating around him, and he would immediately run out of the club if he wasn't so determined.
"Looking for someone?"
He turns around only to see the person he's looking for, complete with smeared eyeliner and platinum blonde hair.
"Uh.." These are the times that Luhan hates that Korean is his second language. He can't think of anything to say. The dancer stares at him expectantly, and when Luhan doesn't say anything, he turns to leave. "No, don't go!"
The boy looks back and winks at Luhan. "My name's Sehun, if you want to find me again." He disappears, and Luhan stares hopelessly at the throng of people surrounding him.
It's Wednesday and Luhan completely regrets going clubbing the night before classes. He lays his head down on the table, feeling the cool wood against his cheek. It's so soothing and comfortable that he closes his eyes and pretends that he doesn't have an eight page essay due in two days.
"Are you gonna go out again tonight?"
"Huh?" It takes a few seconds for Luhan to focus on what Tao is saying, his friend staring at him with worried eyes. Sometimes, Tao's protective nature makes Luhan feel younger than him.
"I said, are you gonna go out again tonight? Your exam is tomorrow, and you skipped lecture hall to sleep yesterday morning." Tao frowns at Luhan. "You need to watch your studies, ge."
"Mhmm." Luhan mutters, not really focusing on the words coming from Tao. Instead, he's wondering what he should wear to the club. "Do you know a Sehun?" There isn't a response, and Luhan looks over to see Tao gaping at him. "You do?"
Tao facepalms. "Of course, your grades are dropping because you're out at a club, watching him dance. Ge, you really need to stop! I'm not old enough to get into clubs to watch over you! At least Sehun maintains his grades..."
Luhan is only interested in one thing from Tao's little lecture. "So Sehun usually dances?"
It's a few nights after his exam when Tao finally lets Luhan out of their apartment. He promises to be home by two, to not get into a fight, and to please not drive home drunk. It feels like Tao is a mom. With a dick.
Everything is worth it though, because Sehun's there again, hips swaying from side to side as he seduces the crowd during the first few songs. Luhan doesn't think he'll ever get enough of Sehun, so he stays back (sorry, Tao) just for an extra song. He's in the midst of pushing his way through everyone when he feels a hand on his shoulder and turns.
"I heard that you're skipping lectures just to see me," Sehun says, smiling. "I'm flattered, but if you just had my number, I think you would be able to pull up your grades."
Luhan's about to agree, but. "Tao forced you to do this, didn't he."
Sehun shrugs innocently. "Well, I also think you're really attractive."
He doesn't get a chance to protest before Sehun uses a sharpie to scrawl his number in messy black ink on Luhan's arm.
IV.
"Hey man, it's Thursday. And you know what that means."
"Mhm."
"It's video day!"
"Mhm."
Luhan hears Xiumin hang up after making a noise of exasperation. He reclines in his chair, not in the mood to stress. After a few seconds, he sits up again and clicks the play button on the video he has pulled up.
"Hey guys! So before I show you our latest short, I need to tell you to check out deerlu's channel. He's freaking awesome. Voice, looks, he's got it a-"
The boy onscreen is cut off as another boy, with fluffier hair and darker skin pushes him aside. "Sehun, control your inner fanboy. We all know that you would screw Luhan if you had the chance," there's a faint noise of protest, but he continues. "but you don't, so I'll go ahead and let y'all start watching the actual video!"
The plot was good, Luhan concludes as the video comes to a finish. But the best part was definitely the actors. Especially Sehun.
Luhan puts his earphones in and clicks on his webcam/sound recorder icon, and out of the corner of his eye he can see Xiumin texting him to pay attention to the song. But while he's singing, all he can think about is Sehun.
He finishes the cover and smiles at the screen.
"Alright, thanks for watching.. or just for listening! I don't usually do this, but I wanna tell everyone to check out hallyuwannabes. Sehun and Jongin make amazing videos!" He concludes with a promise to sing more with everyone's support and a peace sign, then hits the stop recording button.
The next morning, Luhan awakens to a flood of comments and a bunch of messages containing links to SeLu fan fiction. Xiumin's left at least seven messages on his voicemail, each regarding the random promotion Luhan had given.
The latest video from hallyuwannabes is titled "AHHH" and consists of half a minute of speechless Sehun and three minutes of fanboying Sehun.
"Guys he noticed me! He actually noticed me-"
"You mean us,"' Jongin cuts in, and Sehun throws a book at him. There's a muffled shout as Sehun continues.
"And Luhan if you're watching this - oh, who am I kidding. This is just a boring vlog."
"Damn straight." Another book is thrown.
"But Luhan thank you so so much for mentioning us and watching our videos and supporting us-"
"Thanks for using the correct pronouns when talking about us!" Jongin yells, and the rest of the video is just Sehun and Jongin throwing things at each other.
Luhan smiles to himself as the video ends, leaving him to stare at a black screen. He's not really sure what to think, except that he might be a teensy bit attracted to Oh Sehun, so he clicks the replay button.
V.
"So, let me get this straight," Kris begins, ruining Luhan's moment of peace and quiet. "You've been losing sleep over some dumb drama that isn't even worth watching. No Lee Minho, no Eunji. And the commercial I have to endure for the drama you're watching? It's awful!"
Luhan sighs dreamily. "My first love?" He hears his best friend facepalm and mutter "not again..."
"I still remember him." Luhan throws in a girlish giggle, and Kris groans. "It was the bestttt!" He draws out the syllable on purpose and looks out the window dramatically, not seeing the figure approaching their table. "If I saw him again I'd recognize him right away."
A deeper voice cuts through his monologue. "Through destiny." Kris and Luhan both look up, only to see a boy with pinkish hair and hipster glasses holding two fraps and a bag.
"Hey, Sehun." Kris says, immediately standing up. "You two drama junkies can talk and obsess over stuff while I go to do important things." He walks away, presumably to hit on the barista, leaving Luhan to stare as Sehun sits in the newly vacated spot across from him.
"My Love From Another Star, right?" Sehun shrugs, taking a sip from one cup in his hand and setting the second one in front of Luhan. He hands over Luhan's bag, continuing. "I've heard that too many times while I was rewatching City Hunter. So that's why you've been staying up late?"
Luhan is quick to defend himself. "It's actually really good. You would love it, really! Anyways.." He lifts up his bag, rummaging through until he pulls out a slightly crumpled gift bag, offering it to Sehun, who looks at him with disbelief.
"You asked me to bring my own anniversary present to you so you could give it to me?" He shakes his head, opening the gift bag slightly to look inside. There's a card that says 'Happy 5 year anniversary!' in bright loopy letters that block whatever is inside the bag from Sehun's view, and he lifts a hand to move it aside.
"Wait wait wait," Luhan interrupts, not giving Sehun the chance to peek at his gift. "Don't I get something, too?"
Luhan pouts, and Sehun's eyes widen. "Well, to be honest, I forgot..." He lifts an arm to shield himself as Luhan throws a straw at him. "But I remembered!"
It's a bit awkward to get out of his chair and kneel on the floor of a coffee shop, but Sehun manages to do it while taking a small box out of his pocket. He nearly hits his elbow on the edge of the table, though. Sehun successfully opens the small box, turning it towards Luhan to reveal a ring.
"So, it's been five years, and it's been a long time and I know this will sound so cheesy but I want to know if-"
"Yes yes YES!" Luhan launches himself at Sehun, pulling him up for a kiss, and then another, until Sehun leans back to slip a ring onto Luhan's finger. In that moment, everyone around the two doesn't matter, just them.
A few minutes later, as they're sitting on their respective sides of the table again, the only difference as Luhan's new ring, Sehun picks up his gift.
"Can I look now?" He inquires, lifting the bag up for Luhan to see. Luhan blushes, and mutters something that Sehun can't hear. "What?"
"I said, it's lame. And now it seems lamer compared to what you did."
Sehun pushes the card to the side, not listening to Luhan's protests, and pulls out a hot pink beanie that says YOLO in obnoxious Comic Sans lettering all over it.
"I am so regretting that proposal," he sighs, and yelps when Luhan somehow lifts his leg to kick Sehun's side from the other side of the table. "I'm just kidding!"
"But either way, I'm sure we would find a way to love each other."
Luhan squeals happily and throws his arms around Sehun's neck, pressing his lips to Sehun's.
"That's cute. And extremely cheesy," he mutters, smiling.
"But you love me."
Luhan doesn't bother giving a response, grinning up at Sehun and kissing him again.
