I'm still a daily LJ user, even if I don't update everyday. I'd love to have some new friends considering the community here has died a little and things are rather quiet.
Second Life is similar for me. It slowed down and I had no idea what to do or where to go, so I haven't been in world for a while now. I would sure like to - I'd like to know what people get up to and whether I can tag along, hehe :)
Second Life has really changed a lot, but it is still the same in general scope. The big mainland land turnover market has crashed and there is a lot of abandoned parcels all over the place. So, it is easier to explore, easier to meet in groups, and there is essentially no lag in most places because regions are not being flooded with people. I know some people don't like it, but I don't mind it much. ;)
I recently joined the SL Friendship Network. It looks to be an active group. They do things, have events together, and it looks to be a good place to make friends. You might look into that yourself. However, I must admit that I have done nothing with them yet because I've been so busy exploring, researching, and writing the newsletter. Still, they look like fun folk to me and I look forward to getting involved in the near future.
SL is still a fun place - that if, if one isn't trying to make a living out of it. That's a hard life and it leaves no time to actually enjoy Second Life.
I joined in 2006 and spent a good four years helping to run a club, including DJing. I also really enjoyed RPing in Midian City and became a faction leader before it changed management a few years ago. Both Midian and the club disappeared eventually and I just seemed to do nothing but spend money and visit empty places. I'm looking forward to logging in again and having an explore honestly :)
It sounds like you did a lot while you were on! LOL!
Do nothing but visit empty places and spend money? Yeah, that was me too for the longest time. Before that everyone and their uncle was trying to get me into making money this way or that way. I started to do it, then suddenly realized that that's what I do in real life. I don't want to work for money in my Second Life - especially not for small percentages of a penny. *chuckle*
I tell people I explore and go slow, but actually I am pretty quick about it. I do go down every street, every path, between buildings, view out and in, yet because I have a near photographic memory it stays with me. Then I go back to the places that I passed that are worth some more consideration. Stores and such, or great builds.
So, if I am on when you are on and you start feeling like exploring and don't want to go alone, find me on the map. A lot of it boring, but sometimes, yeah. You find that gem hidden behind the trees. :)
I'm around, though admittedly, I'm usually too shy to do very much in-world. When I do, it tends to be photography - finding interesting sims, and seeing what kind of special views I can eke out of them.
Excellent hobby! I do the same to some extent, but because I am exploring for the newsletter I can't really take time to find the best scene to shoot. It's mostly point and click for me these days. *chuckle*

LiveJournal is perfect for SLers. I wish they'd figure that one out.
Nice to see you here, by the way. :)
