This was adorable! Lorne trying to hide his geekiness and Novak threatening to "out" him (she's a wicked, wicked woman!) were just so very good! *giggles* Loved every line of it esp the first part with the "That thing" exchange. Of course everyone thinks they're dating...they speak the oh so very subtle/super sekrit code of lovers! *g*

Well done!

*Grins* I'm so glad you liked it. It wasn't supposed to turn out how it did, but I rather like it anyway. And I can very much see Lorne as a fan of The Stainless Steel Rat ^_^

*Loves the wonderful world of miscommunication within fic*

This was really cute! There is just something about Lorne and Novak that I just love, and you wrote them so sweetly.

Thank you so much ^_^ I adore Lorne & Novak as a pairing so much, partly because there is something really /sweet/ about them, even as just an initial concept. Glad you liked it!

Okay, and that's the first time I've ever actually clicked on links in the works referenced section of a story! (And I come from the lotr fandom, where sometimes, the notes at the end took up more space than the story!) I didn't know one of those titles though, apparently I'm not as geeky as I thought. *hee*

Loved Lorne and Novak's interaction here, they do seem the type of couple who sort of just...fall into a relationship through no real intent.

Well done.

Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it ^_^ (I have to say, I really see Lorne as a Stainless Steel Rat fan, but Sheppard even more so if he'd ever read them)

Okay, so it's late, and the first time I read the Stainless Steel Rat reference it didn't click.

And then it did.

OMG! Stainless Steel Rat! I have never run accross anyone other then myself and my father (who I nicked the books off of as a kid) that had even heard of the series :D

Also, I really loved this story, it was geeky and sweet and had that tinge of slightly twisted *g*. I have a love for Lorne/Novak stories, just because of the way that their interactions get written, so :)

*Giggles* I was raised on the books referenced above, amongst others. I kind of felt like I had to include Slippery Jim, because I think Lorne would relate to him in strange ways and he's the right age to have nicked the books from an older sibling or acquired them himself.

My mother and father actually fought over the old sci-fi books in the divorce - no joke.

I'm so thrilled that not only did someone actually get the reference, but they liked it ^_^ Thanks for reading!

Dude, my family actually had a conversation the other day that consisted of us realising that what will get aruged over in the wills? Is the books. They're like, family property, we all buy and just, kind of add to this massive library (so of course we have doubles of more then a few things because we don't realise it's already been bought, and yeah.). The only ones that ever get thrown out are my mums murder mystery/drama ones because except for the rare occasion she's the only one who reads them and doesn't hold the same kind of sentimental attachments as we do to the sci-fi ones.

Okay it's good to know there are other really geeky families out there.

LOL

I'm third generation fen, so I completely understand. The old family tagline was "If the house burns down, save the first edition Tolkiens!!"

My mom had a complete set of Agatha Christies & Perry Masons at one point, and I've never quite forgiven her for giving them away. I've moved cross-country twice in the last year, so my library has been forced to shrink considerably, but both of my parents and a maternal uncle still have massive collections of old-school dime-novel Sci-Fi (We're talking the books with two fronts where it's two separate novels glued together, as well as the Sector Generals and Lensmen and Eric Frank Russells et al).

Hee!

So, so good, as always. I love how it's almost gen, and that the particular geekiness isn't of the normally seen (or at least seen in fic that I've seen) varieties.

Thanks for saying so! When I got the prompt (It was actually a last minute pinch-hit), I went "OK, how can I go outside of the box?" and this was what resulted. I wanted to leave the ending open to the reader, because the best on-screen romance is when you're never sure if it is or isn't. Or, you know, there is the appeal of showing Lorne as a total old school sci-fi geek - simply because everyone assumes he's not because Sheppard is.

Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^
