Alice figured that walking straight into the police station, announcing that she was a vampire from another world, and trying to convince the officers that their world was about to be destroyed by a legendary sorceress with a grudge wasn't really going to work, and she was starting to wonder if it would have been easier to go with the pillar group.

The commotion in front of the building wasn't that reassuring either. Brusquely moving a stray strand of spiky black hair behind her ear, Alice sighed and entered into the foyer of the CPD headquarters.

For her part, Shard was wondering if the library might have been a better choice. She didn't even have to announce anything, though. She was hoping her odd looks would get people to pause long enough to listen.

She followed Alice in, looking around. "Oh yeah. Police stations never really change, do they?"

Tesla, meanwhile, was taking the even-handed route, going so far as to wonder if it would have been better after all to simply not come. Obviously, he didn't have much of a choice in arriving in either version of Chicago, but he'd never really been one to care for police headquarters and he rather doubted that it was going to be as simple as explaining things to the officers.

"Why would they?"

"It's something called progress," Alice said, walking straight up to the front desk to approach a harried-looking officer who was cradling a telephone between his ear and his shoulder. "Excuse me, sir. Excuse me - I think you're on hold if that phone is even working at all."

The officer's eyes darted towards her. "I'll be with you in one sec-"

Alice's eyes narrowed. "It's going to take you more than a second - you're not going to get through with the sort of magic being thrown around outside. Now if you'll kindly get off the phone and listen, we might be able to help you get the military here." She gave a pointed glance to the phone. "You don't exactly have a lot of options right now."

[Outside the headquarters of the CPD, the street is abnormally quiet. The faint sound of sirens can be heard miles away, carried by a faint breeze, but it seems that everyone else has caught solitude in the buildings in the area.

So it is even more obvious that something not right as some strange creature - or creatures, as it were - come racing down the street, a demonic mixture of claws and teeth and glowing eyes. They are phages, dozens of them, created from the nightmares that lurk in the frightened populace's shared psyche. Their goal is quite clear as they continue at breakneck speeds towards the police station.]

Karrin took one last look at HQ before passing through the doors and out into the city again. This might be her last time to see it. However, it was too late in the game to have regrets. Karrin's hand stayed glued to the katana at her hip. She hadn't used it since it was given to her...this time it was for real. This time she wasn't picking it up in the heat of battle, she had chosen this path on her own. She found herself wondering how the other groups were doing, but she shook her head. Now wasn't the time to think of them either ( ... )

"Nice sword," Kincaid drawled, eyes never leaving the approaching hordes. He looked completely nonplussed by their numbers, absently reloading one of his guns as if he dealt with this sort of thing on a daily basis. There was a dangerous shadow in his eyes, but he held himself quietly and calmly - this entire thing may as well have been another job for him. "Try not to get hurt now, sweetheart. I might be a little busy to come and rescue you this time."

He said all of this with a faint smile on his face to show that he was only kidding, and then he took off as well in the opposite direction of Karrin, letting loose a deadly barrage of bullets that nearly all found their marks. Some of the phages screamed and fell to the street, writhing in pain, but even Kincaid's near-perfect marksmanship couldn't take down the dozens upon dozens of monsters headed their way.

A minute frown slipped onto face. Always so early with the grenades.

Shard rolled her eyes at Kincaid as she moved to the side, giving them both room to do what they needed. "I dare say that we can handle ourselves."

Okay, sure, he hadn't offered to rescue her. Not that she needed it.

She found the spot with the best lighting and set herself there, letting her body start absorbing it. It wasn't going to replace what she used quite fast enough, but she'd manage a bit longer if she was careful. Didn't mean there wasn't plenty of oomph in her blasts, eyes glowing with the same energy as gathered around her hands and taking out a couple of phages at a time thanks to the double-barrel technique. "We're really going to need some better weapons."

Or more people. The three of them against dozens of these things? Yeah, this was going to get messy.
