Sora didn't think battling Xemnas had been that exhausting, and the Nobody had thrown skyscrapers at him. It had been so comforting to just lie down and rest for a bit, and he was reminded so much of those days back on the Islands when the most he had ever had to worry about was how he didn't really have anything planned for the day. If he concentrated, he could almost feel the white sun burning down on him, the lap of the ocean nearby, the other kids laughing as they fought fake battles and lost their footing on the sand...
It was gone too soon, and Sora had to open his eyes.
He didn't know where he was but as he sat up, it looked like everyone was there. He blinked wearily, rubbing his eyes and wishing he didn't feel as if he had been run over by a herd of Bulky Vendors. The three people who were cheerfully discussing their current state were unfamiliar...well, two of them were. He only stared blankly at Neal. Wasn't he supposed to be dead?
Eraqus hadn't known how much he needed a sleep like this until he was in it...after such a long and exhausting battle, it was an inexplicable relief to have the weight of the worlds off his shoulders, if only for a little bit. For a moment, it was like being back in the sunlit mountains of the Land of Departure, with everything as it should be.
The sound of voices, however, brought him out of that brief respite and to the realization that this wasn't quite home. The first person he noticed was Sora, although it looked like most everyone that had been in the city was here, too.
But then he also recognized Neal; the man whose funeral he attended...and who apparently ended up as far more than any of them expected.
"Where are we?" he asked the three that had obviously brought them here, but also anyone that perhaps had an answer.
Sora scrambled to his feet as the others began to awaken, looking around at their surroundings. He heard water somewhere but couldn't see it and the dissipating fog didn't do much to conceal the rolling hills just beyond. This was possibly the most peaceful place he had even been outside of the Hundred Acre Woods, but that didn't stop the confusion that was slowly growing on him.
"We're not..." He looked over at Eraqus and then glanced back at Neal, scratching the back of his head. "Uh... we're still alive, right?"
At first, it was cold. Not terribly so, but enough to remind him of his room back on Serenity. It felt like they were sailing through space again, Wash piloting instead of crazy girl, and he was back on his cot with the blanket and his wall with all the guns and knives ready to go, just in case. It felt like home. Then the feeling changed, and suddenly it was a different kind of home. He could almost hear his mother's voice now...
It was the best sleep he'd had in years.
Everything started to shift, turning warm and comfortable. Weirdly comfortable. The cot, no matter how long he'd been sleeping in it, still always had that weird sort of discomfort to it that was... well, it was comforting, in its own way. Sort of. It was familiar, at least. But this... this wasn't familiar. This was...
