We can fix the state constitution later. Much as I want Prop 8 to fail, we can fix the state constitution later, and believe me, we will. (Actually, I think the supreme court has to agree that we need to change the constitution in order for 8 passing to really do anything.) And I'll be first in line to offer what help I can in getting things fixed, if 8 passes.
Prop 4, on the other hand, needs to fail. Parental consent laws for teenage abortions are not what at-risk girls need, oh no. Prop 8 does harm to rights and progress; Prop 4 does harm to teenage girls.
Gay marriage can honestly wait while we make sure that a 13-year-old girl doesn't have to prove in court that her parents would hurt her or disown her if she had an abortion, should she need one.
See, I'm just all-over nerves tonight. *bites nails* Politics plus too much sugar, augh.
I'm honestly not too worried about Prop 4. There have been similar measures on the ballot before, and each time, it's been struck down. Most people see it for what it is: flawed.
I mean, I know that the state constitution can be fixed later if we have to, but really, I'd rather have it so we don't have to do that. I'd like to believe that California has progressed enough that it wouldn't let such a proposition pass.
But then again, I have always been a little too trusting in other people...
