I am, of course, saddened to hear of the passing of one of the greatest ha! Unspeakables that ever was: Jovan Juliana. He died for the cause ( Read more... )

Why, Mr. Rookwood. I sincerely fuck you hope I'm not antagonizing you. There is no animosity at all. In fact, I was merely stating my observations and ideas. It is not my fault if you find my style a bit garish.

Also, it would be hard to interpret your work as anything... important for the mere fact that no one knows what it is you do. You could tell me... or... oh, no, how dreadful, you'd have to kill me, wouldn't you?

My work is my work and I excel at organizing things as they should be for the most powerful ranking individual in the Ministry. If you will deign not to insult me or my occupation, I won't insult yours.

And I might even show you the more indulgent benefits of a single life.

Garish is not the word I would have used, but still.
I realise you meant it in jest but you are in fact quite right, for once. Telling you anything would either mean you becoming an Unspeakable (which could never happen) or your death.

[Private: Ariadne]
How did I know you would say something like that, hm? What did you have in mind?

A dinner.

And perhaps more.

Depends on how willing you are to get down to "business".

As long as you do not expect me to pay for this dinner then I am most willing. As for more, well... I would imagine you're used to receiving money for that as well, but I'm afraid I shall have to disappoint on that count.

Poor Juliana. [/lack of any discernable emotion]

I'm sorry to hear about your wife. Marriages are such hard work. I wonder why people bother sometimes.

Poor Juliana indeed.

I thank you but I am sure I shall get over it. It is as you say, marriages are more trouble than they are worth really.

More necessary, societally, for women.

Oh don't tell me you succumb to the pressures of society, Madeleine.

Jovan's death will not be in vain, Augustus, we are working to make sure of that.

I am truly sorry to hear about Olivia-- marriages are indeed difficult, especially for commited people like us. I am fortunate I have been blessed with an understanding wife whom I haven't even spoken to for two weeks and a beautiful son who I don't know at all-- there is one for all of us, you will find yours soon.

As for Ariadne-- truly? Very strange. I've never particularly taken to her myself, though she is rather too, er, stylish, as Isabel would say, isn't she?

I thank you, Bartemius, on both points.
I could not help but notice the proposals you've put to the Minister regarding Aurors and the use of the Unforgivable curses. I must say I am still not quite sure what to make of it - my predecessor fought for many years to allow the Unspeakables access to those particular hexes but the Aurors, well... they're not as highly trained, are they. I know that for a fact.

'Stylish' is not really the word I would have used for Ariadne.

Not highly trained my ass.

At least I have a discernable job, Rookwood.

She's a woman and they have many faults.

Ideals and beliefs that coincide with that one will not get you very far in life, I'm afraid. In today's modren world a woman can do (and will do) anything that man can do - but she will do it better. Take the Minister of Magic as an example, or perhaps the Editer in Chief of The Daily Prophet? Both of which are female, and both of which are doing a Hell of a better job than you are, Rookwood.

A better job than I? I really don't see how attempting (and failing) to bring a modicum of control to a paper that, on most occasions, is vastly off the mark with it's fairy tales can be compared to managing the most important department in the MoM in the fight against Him.

I would hardly call in-depth reports of the truth behind the web of lies the Ministry creates fiary tales. While specific facts we relay may not always be one hundred percent accurate, we take the information that we are given and, in turn, give that to the public. It is not our fault if the public does not find the information particularly pleasing, and we assume no responsiblity in such a case.

Until you have written a report as Head of the Department of Mysteries, you have no idea just how 'in depth' a report can be. They have been known to go on for thousands of sheets.

And it is your fault if the information is presented in such a way so as to intentionally appear displeasing.
