I noticed the same thing with the Coke in Costa Rica...plus they use glass bottles...recycled no less. You can find some bottlers that still use sugar instead of corn syrup, whether for kosher reasons or because of the notion that corn syrup causes a fatty liver (I haven't researched this in particular) or just because of taste in the case of a Dr. Pepper bottler I know.

I'm not sure if it's just the price of sugar, or how cheaply we get corn syrup...as we grow so much corn, then again I guess we do grow a lot of sugar beets as well.
