Disappointments

And so the holiday to Edinburgh that I've been planning for about 7 months now... is not happening. The friend I was going with hasn't the money necessary to go, despite having ages to save it up. In fact he had lots of money but he spent it all on X box games and alcohol and recently spent what little money he had on a weekend at Butlins. So now, ( Read more... )

Unreliable people are sooo annoying.

No chance you could find someone else to go with?

None. I've asked round some of my closest friends and though they'd love to go none have got any money. Which is fair enough. Not many college students have £400 lying around doing nothing which they can spend on a holiday at 4 weeks notice.

'cept they were sensible enough, being broke, to not make any commitments with friends.

Could you go by yourself? There must be some way to salvage the holiday. :)

But it's just not as fun that way - 6 days of wandering around by myself? I wouldn't fancy that at all.

I would offer to acompany you myself, but even assuming you were happy to go with someone you barely know, I have no Edinburgh money either :(

I would suggest, though, that you'll have more fun going on your own that not going at all. When I went to the Edinburgh Festival for the day *cough* years ago, I had tremendous fun bimbling about on my own.

Oh hell, I'm sorry. I'd snap that up if I could... ask on OG! There's BOUND to be someone in the Leisure Hive who'd go with you (as long as you make it clear it's a friends only thing... bless them).

I really feel for you, what a rotten thing for a friend to do. I'd go with you myself in another world, but alas I don't think that'd be possible. Will you lose £400 if you don't go? If yes, you could offer to subsidise another person to go with you... i.e say you'll pay half their accomodation or something? Is there anyone in the family (cousin etc.) that could go with you? What about Simon Ball? He's your best friend isn't he?

Simon Ball is the friend in qustion who I was going with.

I don't think I'll lose much in the way of money - £400 was a round figure including money needed for meals and general spending. I can hopefully get a refund on the flight tickets and I only paid a 40% deposit on the accomodation, which I don't think the owner even took out of mu account. It's just really the fact that I was really looking forward to the holiday to the city. I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing at present; talking to a few people here and there.

Well I hope you get it sorted out, I can tell you were really looking forward to it. Simon's got some making up to do I reckon, pulling out on you like that at the last minute.
