well. i'm back in school and taking a freshman art class with a bunch of freshmen. i decided i would show all the young whippersnappers what pain really is by inflicting an insane project on myself. we're making lampshades out of fluted polypropylene. my lampshade is very large. it is a hexagonal cylinder. it is big. each face has about a million circles on it. i cut out just the top layer of the circles so that the light comes out all pretty. i lost the feeling in the tips of my fingers about a week ago from using the x-acto knife so much and it hasn't come back yet. i'm not terribly concerned but it's kind of weird.
it's about a quarter inch thick, with flutes. like corrugated cardboard, but plastic, and hard. the littlest circles are the size of a quarter, and the biggest ones are about 9-10 inches in diameter. also to complicate matters i'm mostly just cutting out the top layer of the plastic into a circle shape, so there aren't any good shortcuts. it is a polypropylene hell that i have created for myself out of overachievingnessosity.
the good news: i am done with the circle cutting, and now on to the finishing bits. i have to turn it in on tuesday so this is all going to be over soon, one way or another. after that, pictures!
